Woke ideology is transing the chickens

AcidSmiley [she/her] - 2.7yr

Both sex changes and assuming behavorial roles of another gender happen all the time among various animal species. There's accounts of trans people that are as old as writing itself, but the fluidity of sex and gender goes all the way back through evolutionary history. Sorting everything into two clearly labeled, seperated boxes that you can never leave is a fairly recent trend that is rooted entirely in ideology, but we all know that transphobes can't grasp biology that goes beyond what you learn in 3rd grade.

at least the imperial core seems to be moving past it. thanks to colonizers pushing that toxic shit onto us, we're now stuck with this for a long time. especially in muslim-majority countries thanks to wahhabism, and are forced to either stay hidden+closeted forever or flee with our lives.

Things can move pretty fast when it comes to queer rights. Unfortunately, this can go either way, as shown by the reactionary rollback in many western and post-soviet countries, but that we can show ourselves publicly with at least some safety is a very recent thing in the west as well, there are countless places all over the world where it will become reality within this decade or the next. Police raids on queer spaces, imprisonment of gay men and lesbians having their children taken away are still within living memory in my country, and forced sterilization of trans people as a mandatory part of legal name changes was on the books up until 2011 (a practice Japan is abandoning only now, and that is still law in 17 other countries). The grudging political aknowledgement of our very existence is in itself only a feww decades old. Queer communities have come such a long way in the west due to their incredible resilience and the love, care and solidarity that is bred by our shared experience of marginalization, a bond that carried our elders through the leaden years of post-fascism and the AIDS pandemic. A better world is possible. But it will not come about due to western liberals benevolently handing our rights down to us, that has never been the case. We fought for all we have both in the courtrooms, in the public sphere and on the streets. Queerness means resistance.

For anyone curious how it happens:

How does spontaneous sex reversal occur? Typically, a female chicken has only one functional ovary, the left one. The right ovary and oviduct are present in the embryonic stages of all birds but usually do not develop in chickens. Most cases of spontaneous sex reversal result from a disease condition that damages the left ovary. This condition could be an ovarian cyst or tumor or diseased adrenal glands, which cause the left ovary to regress. Residual tissue in the right ovary develops in the absence of the functional left ovary. This regenerated right gonad is known as an ovotestis and may contain some tissue characteristics of the ovary, the testes, or both. Steroidogenically functional, an ovotestis secretes androgen as well as estrogen. As a result, the hen develops male secondary sex characteristics. So, although the bird is genotypically female, it is phenotypically male. (Genotype refers to the actual traits coded for in paired genes; phenotype refers to the observable expression of those traits.) There are reports of hens with ovotestes producing semen, making them capable of fathering offspring. However, most chickens that have experienced sex reversal never lay eggs or sire offspring.

TL;DR if the left ovary stops functioning for whatever reason, the right one may develop into an ovary/testicle hybrid that secretes androgen which then causes male secondary sex characteristics to show up. In seemingly very rare cases they can produce sperm and thus offspring.

It mildly annoys me that it is the chick and not the egg which is trans colored in this emoji, making it narratively disconnected from the trans-egg emoji
