This is just their standard "The military industrial complex needs more money so we can beat our evil enemy." EDIT: I've actually read through the whole thing and holy shit it is so much worse.

It's just standard boilerplate fearmongering about the "asiatic hordes" not using the proper "advanced and sophisticated" weapons and using human wave tactics, except with missiles.

They also say the quiet part out loud about Taiwan:

About halfway through the article they start getting real bad.

It's been a while since I've actually sat down and read one of these, I forgot this is how most lib's worldview is informed, just nonstop fearmongering about the evil dictators who are evil and invade places for no reason except that it keeps them in power.

It's all like this, just completely ignoring history of the region and talking about how "important" and "strategic" Taiwan is for checking Chinese power, without ever actually outlining why it is a check on Chinese power or why the US, a nation on the other side of the Pacific, needs to be checking China's power.

I haven't quoted it, but they are also playing coy with the US not having an "official stance" on Taiwan while also making it very clear that the US would actually "defend Taiwan if China attacked."

This sums up the article's writing really well:

This whole article has just been the most disgusting jingoism I think I've been subjected to for a while.

I would recommend everyone read this, this is the information the liberals in your life are getting. This is the worldview that is being sold to them. This is how they are being trained to view things. The innocent US protecting poor innocent Taiwan (when their ships aren't in the Caribbean fighting "drug traffickers" of course) and evil China and evil Xi just drooling at the thought of conquering Taiwan. No reason actually given, no explanation, just evil China and also there is a lot of shipping there that the US needs to protect from evil China, it's just "there" it doesn't come from anywhere, don't ask questions, what are you, a China sympathiser? US good and wholesome, China evil and bad. This was so much worse than I thought it would be. I figured it would be bog standard "The US is falling behind so they needs more money for the MIC, but no, it's just pure vitriol and half-truths that wouldn't look out of place in a newspaper in the Third Reich.

It just boggles my mind how empty this whole thing was, it had 0 real substance or information, it was like anti-information, reading this uncritically would literally make someone less informed. Again, I encourage people to actually read it since this is how the western media is towards China right now, and it will only escalate and get even more untethered from reality and even more hateful and racist.
