(the context is there is slow rolling "scandal" in terflandia that farage was unabashedly nazi as a kid/young adult, but british press is now running interference for him)

'All schoolboys were obsessed with Hitler'
Nigel Farage said this? What kind of fucking school did he go to?
If this doesn't turn people off, I don't know what will... Oh wait. Reform is leading in the elections. Fucking terf island.

all schoolboys were once obsessed with Hitler
so its prop, but i am a fan of effective communication and this just seems... not.
everyone knows that words often carry more info than the speaker intends, yeah? how does one write this and not think to oneself 'this assertion is basically admitting i was obsessed with Hitler.'
unlike say, the prop i'm used to where an alternate truth is peddled, pointing an accusatory finger at the reader for their own suffering and then turning their heads towards blaming whatever they like (super effective!), this lead starts out with a lie most readers would push back on, setting reader up on the defense instead of priming them to agree with your argument.
i'm just confused i guess cuz assuming stupidity in enemies is an easy trap to fall into, so i'm lookin for what I'm missing that makes this prop piece useful as prop.
could it be that this piece was not written for me? is the author talking over me? much like WSJ speaks to its readers as if proles weren't in the room, is this piece just for the hitler enjoyers?
i need to understand the point of this
