i saw the most carbrained shit last friday. we've had multiple snow storms in my small mountain town. they do a good job on plowing and salting the roads, but they weren't exactly tip top at that time. i walk everywhere, so whatever, but im trudging along this 25 mph residental street with multiple cross walks and a bike path... its quiet residential street with little kid/elderly community centers, parallel parking, and mostly just houses with little driveways. when i drive on it in perfect conditions, i creep along at ~20 and watch like a hawk. a car is backing out into the quiet, practically empty road and i hear it before i turn to look: this psycho is bombing down the icy, slushy road at like 45+ and not slowing at all.
i watch this guy hard stop at the last possible second right on the guy's ass, like he was making a point. frankly i don't know how he didn't slide and crash.
but that wasn't enough, he cuts the wheel and floors it, driving up onto the bike path so he can squeeze past the car backing out and continues tearing ass down the street on tilt.
it was astonishing how aggressive, dangerous, and pointless it was. and this isn't some downtown bypass. the road started behind him less than 100 yards earlier, so he had to gun it to get up to 45 after 90° turn at a 4 way stop at a major pedestrian intersection downtown.
if i could have pushed a button and electrocuted the driver until their heart seized and they died in agony, i would have pushed it rhythmically while dance-walking home. it was legit one of the most asshole moves ive seen in years.

Crosstreks have worse visibility, worse handling, and worse features than Imprezas. It's hands down the worst model of Subaru, and that includes Bajas.

You just made it make sense to me now. I always think of big trucks and jeeps as the car brained road rage machines, but the Crosstrek is just a car brained Impreza. All the SUV "features" on a compact-ish car.
Is the expensive off-road one even viable for that use?

I doubt it, but I live in a place that's known for Subaru ownership and I've never once heard of someone intentionally offroading with any model. People usually use those dumb lifted trucks for that.
