UN votes on "International Day Against Colonialism"
Awoo [she/her] - 5day
Every UN vote is essentially always US/Israel against, Nato sphere of influence (the amerikkkan empire) abstains, everyone else is in favour.
This repeats, over and over.

mendiCAN [none/use name] - 5day
real question: why even vote against it? why not just vote for it, since it's symbolic anyway. then sit back and dare the world to call us holdings or isntrael 'colonies'. If it is symbolic, and seeing how voting against ends up making the US and isntrael look bad, is there like a concrete reason to vote no?
29
barrbaric [he/him] - 5day
IIRC the reason that the US and their puppets give is that it would be giving Russia and/or China a PR win, just like the resolution against nazism that gets blocked every year.
28
Collatz_problem [comrade/them] - 4day
Isn't US voting against an even bigger PR win for Russia?
16
cfgaussian @lemmygrad.ml - 3day
It is if you're not a Nazi. The problem is that the West is run by Nazis and as such pathologically incapable of realizing how this looks to the rest of the world.

Wow, this (UN vote on vaguely good thing that is purely symbolic) sure reminds me of every other (UN vote on vaguely good thing that is purely symbolic)
26
DragonBallZinn [he/him, they/them] - 5day
Ah, Abstention. A “no” vote for cowards.
24
nothx [he/him] - 4day
what gets me here is that an "international day of X" does fuck all in the grand scheme of anything. So on one hand, who fucking cares? On the other hand, the US and Europe cant even feign support for the symbolism...
23
groKKK [none/use name, they/them] - 4day
This vote exposes the duplicitous nature of the South African government. It votes against colonialism, yet it encourages the killings of white South Africans and the looting of their farms. White genocide helps the black majority to get rid of evermore white people and to settle on their land as if it was never theirs. This is not justice—it's colonialism.

Even Argentina on it and these Westerners can't bring themselves to do it
https://usun.usmission.gov/explanation-of-vote-on-un-general-assembly-fourth-committee-resolution-on-the-international-day-against-colonialism-in-all-its-forms-and-manifestations/
""Third, this resolution absurdly calls for the pursuit of reparations based on flawed historical guilt narratives"
What flawed?
I don't get why they vote no even on something purely symbolical and completely inconsequential.
how the hell did Argentina vote yes, is Milley Lacking?
There's a lot of things in LatAm that even Milei's people aren't unwise enough to say.
Well we know which two don't get to sit with anyone else at the UN cafeteria
Typical US/Israel blatant opposition to basic stuff and much of Europe hedging their bets.
Fiji, PNG, Samoa, and Tonga getting bribed to vote against their own interests
Lmao does "free speech" cover this one aswell or did they just point to Thanksgiving on a calender?
