Okay, denounce white supremacy then

44
aanes_appreciator [he/him, comrade/them] - 5day

she's denounced division and hatred with the cadence of an LLM what more do you want?

12
Awoo [she/her] - 6day

Her "silence regarding this issue" was itself an answer and we heard her loud and clear.

I always think it would be fun, and my indomitable human spirit opens me to being hurt, if someone genuinely got educated after some shit like this.

The only instance I can recall is someone of prominence whose name completely escapes me. They jokingly called him "chairman" something, like Rose [1]. He had a full change of heart and started calling himself a socialist and decrying US foreign policy.

[1] Chairman Rose is the main antagonist of Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. He is the charismatic chairman of the Galar pokemon League and the president of the ...

40
CatoPosting [they/them, he/him] - 6day

I saw Christy as a mystery movie [edit: it was fine, better than The Smashing Machine imo but not something I'd intentionally watch] and was totally unaware of the drama. I can't even imagine getting involved with a project like that, playing a lesbian boxer, and also trying to court chuds. Like...did she think she could bring both sides together or that people wouldn't notice? She or her PR team are dumb for real. Its like Hillary Clinton still trying the faking an accent similar to the people you're talking to in the internet era, except Sweeny fucking grew up with it. The mind wobbles.

20
moss_icon [comrade/them] - 6day

I still have absolutely no idea who this is. At this point I’m convinced that Hollywood keeps inventing random new celebrities and expecting us all to go along with it.

35
fox [comrade/them] - 6day

I’m convinced that Hollywood keeps inventing random new celebrities

New celebrities have to come from somewhere, idk if you're expecting to have a permanent and unchanging set of famous people but new ones filter in pretty often

23
moss_icon [comrade/them] - 6day

idk if you're expecting to have a permanent and unchanging set of famous people

This isn’t what I’m talking about, like 5 months ago out of the blue Sydney Sweeney was all over social media and the news about how she is “polarising” and “everyone is divided over her” as if we’re all just supposed to already know who she is and have a concrete opinion on her.

12
fox [comrade/them] - 6day

No, she had a breakout role in Euphoria, which was the biggest HBO show in a hot minute. Also where Zendaya came from

12
CupcakeOfSpice [she/her, fae/faer] - 5day

I remember when Zendaya was a big Disney star. She was also in Greatest Showman before Euphoria. I don't know if Dune was before or after, but she plays a major role in that too.

1
rootsbreadandmakka [he/him] - 6day

Damn and I thought I lived a blissful life. There are definitely those made up new celebrities but Sydney Sweeney isn’t really one of them, she’s been around for quite a while. She was in the white lotus and euphoria, which she became well known for, but she’s really only catapulted into the spot of new Hollywood it girl idk like post 2021 or 2022 or something? Mostly bc she’s a white girl with large breasts, and the chuds had all convinced themselves that white people were like banned from Hollywood or something so they’re all salivating over her now and then going on Fox News to discuss how Sydney sweeneys anti-woke boobs represent the death of liberalism.

8
moss_icon [comrade/them] - 6day

Never seen either of those shows which explains why I don’t recognise her.

11
Rod_Blagojevic [none/use name] - 5day

Apparently I do have a blissful life. I have heard of those shows. I know Sydney Sweeney is an actress, somewhat younger than Kevin Kostner.

7
rootsbreadandmakka [he/him] - 5day

Haha the blissful life comment was just that I generally tend to be out of the loop when it comes to celebrity culture. But not knowing who Sydney Sweeney is? I’m honestly extremely jealous. I can only wish I was on that level of completely ignoring pop culture

5
stink @lemmygrad.ml - 5day

Not anymore bucko! 100000 years of tom cruise thanks to CGI!!!!

10
CloutAtlas [he/him] - 5day

She was on Euphoria and White Lotus which at one stage were like the hottest television shows around. I missed those trains so I also had no idea. But she also transitioned from a TV actor to a Film actor which isn't unheard of but is fairly uncommon.

Also she's conventionally attractive and a registered Republican so Chuds like her a lot.

12

Hollywood goes through female actresses like Ben Affleck and young women

7
axont [she/her, comrade/them] - 5day

Do you mean Leonardo DiCaprio? The stereotype with Ben Affleck is he only likes women named Jennifer

8
Frogmanfromlake [none/use name] - 6day

That is exactly what they’ve done since the studio system was set up.

7
rootsbreadandmakka [he/him] - 6day

It’s been like years of chuds all falling over themselves to praise her “anti-woke boobs.” Her entire existence as an actress has been celebrated by chuds as the death of “wokeness in hollywood,” by which they of course mean token representation in movies and such. And what about that whole criticism of her hanging out with family members wearing blue lives matter shirts and stuff, to which she pretty much said she didn’t care. To say her main fault in all this has been her silence is laughable. She has leaned into all of this for the last few years, this ad being only the most recent example.

came_apart_at_Kmart [he/him, comrade/them] - 6day

it's so weird when a celeb tries to play like they actually like the brand/product they endorsed in some advertising campaign. like i'm sure there's something in the contract for public statements with some kind of clawback of compensation if you publicly wipe your ass on something within a certain amount of time, but c'mon.

speaking of celeb endorsements, i was watching some free slop streamer the other day and there was an ad from Katherine Heigle endorsing an adult diaper. like only a 5% chance this was something i dreamed, pretty sure i was awake and it was real. i have a bunch of anti-ad anonymizer shit going on and i never make logins for free stuff, so i get really bizarre ads sometimes. local ads for the wrong place, sometimes in a language i'm not fluent in, menopausal support, kids toys, medicine for issues i can't have. it's almost entertaining how far off base they can get.

robot_dog_with_gun [they/them] - 5day

some people only do ads for stuff they like anyway, but that's more of an above minimum-wage streamer thing than a movie star thing

7
DragonBallZinn [he/him, they/them] - 6day

Sydney Sweeney confirmed new type of guy.

White woman who knows chudslop is the most popular thing so panders to the normies…but to her dismay the normies all hate her for still being a woman.

22
purpleworm [none/use name] - 6day

Chudslop is not the most popular thing, it just has thinktank freaks running culture war campaigns around it.

"Normie" is a bad label born of cope from being alienated from society, but normal people aren't (on average) the sort of fash who bite off the heads of even reactionary culture warrior women for not being in the kitchen the way we infamously saw with, for example, Laura Southern.

Sweeney's issue here very obviously is that she pandered to culture war shit for attention but now risks alienating a broader audience because they think that shit is distasteful, even if they have no real framework for opposing it and indeed feed into it by other means.

38
FunkyStuff [he/him] - 6day

The right wing culture war is what you pivot to when your star is waning and real studios aren't very interested in picking you up anymore. Kevin Sorbos, Ben Shapiro, Gina Carano. For an actress still very much in the ascendant phase of her career it's a laughably miscalculated move. I think that despite the countless horrors that visit upon the world daily, we should count chudslop's minute place in the culture among our blessings.

23
purpleworm [none/use name] - 6day

tbf Ben Shapiro was never a "waning star" because he was only a "star" as a rightwing "influencer". He's one of the failed-to-launch grifters like Crowder, who I think wanted to be a comedian or something.

20
corgiwithalaptop [any, love/loves] - 6day

Crowder has been filmed doing stand-up at like CPAC or some shit, and it is BAD

12
Belly_Beanis [he/him] - 5day

You probably already know this, but Ben Shapiro is Mara Wilson's cousin. Shapiro tried getting his uncle (Wilson's father) to give him a nepo job as a writer. His uncle gave him a bottom of the barrel spot on some stuff, but Shapiro scrubbed out and his family wouldn't vouch for him to do anything else.

Ben has been mad about it ever since. He tried writing some novels (chapo did a reading of True Allegiance that's fucking hilarious). They all flopped because he's trash.

5
purpleworm [none/use name] - 5day

I knew he wrote some scripts that were all rejected, but I didn't realize that even that was a nepo connection and even that wasn't enough.

True Allegiance is an all-time classic, from "bear of a man" to the cartoonish defense of racial profiling, and the Chapo Reading Series episode on it does it justice. As an aside, I really appreciate them dedicating multiple episodes to Unfettered recently, I think their reading series is the best part of the podcast by far.

4
Lussy [he/him, des/pair] - 6day

Liberalism is the tablecloth fash refuse to use, and Sidney found out you can’t just launder the dirty table when you get nasty shit on it. Like, you could just do big hollywood movies, follow the rules of liberals, and still keep all your right wing views. But no, she pandered to the knuckledraggers of the group.

13
Belly_Beanis [he/him] - 6day

For an actress still very much in the ascendant phase of her career it's a laughably miscalculated move.

I would have immediately fired my agent and issued a public apology, denouncing the ad campaign, claiming I was just a stupid white person who didn't think about the implications. That she had a bunch of people around her go "Yeah, this is a good idea for an endorsement. Oh no oh shit o fuck wait no nevermind uhhh....just stay quiet and maybe it will go away?" is baffling.

She could easily have hit A-lister status to become her generation's Michelle Pfeiffer. Instead, she may have torpedoed her career before even turning 30.

11
thefunkycomitatus [comrade/them, they/them] - 6day

I looked up her agent because I was curious. Her agent just left one talent management company for another. Like a few days ago. Sidney is keeping her agent so technically she is under a new agency. I'm curious if this is part of a new PR package the new place created for her.

It's a bold move, Cotton. Let's see how it plays out.

(This would also be great in the new popculture community, but I'm too lazy to cross-post right now.)

I love the "hail mary" of responding to the criticism while giving some lib-tier platitude slop. This just reads like a Democrat trying to answer for their votes about Israel or something

10
footfaults @lemmygrad.ml - 5day

Even with people explaining who she is and the TV shows that she was on, I feel like I understand even less of what the hell is going on (I don't watch much TV). I know there was some sort of thing people were arguing about, around a jeans commercial she did, but I absolutely don't understand it at all.

Like, at a meta level I understand she tried to do the chud meta for a bit but looks like that didn't make enough money so now she's trying to get on the liberals side but beyond that I don't know what the fuck this is all about

9
Horse {they/them} - 5day

tbh i never heard of her before the nazi jeans ad

Hey look ill never be mad at celebrities being cowardly in the right direction. There’s enough to be mad about in this world!
