It's funny how it's always the leftists that swing right to avoid alienating voters that end up alienating voters.

It's almost like running on a platform of compassion and helping others and then pulling a hard right turn away from that just makes you look like an insincere opportunist.

You even see people try that shit here sometimes "We need to find way to appeal to Normie's so maybe tone down the supporting [insert marginalized group] so loudly, Kay?"

It's frustrating in part because... Yeah obviously the leader of a successful movement will appeal to a broader base. That's what that means. They'll present in ways that are, if not appealing, at least not off-putting to wider society. But that doesn't mean they'll be "normal", and in fact successful leaders are exceptional, not normal. And successful appealing leaders are being themselves, they're not being "normal", they're certainly not people it would make sense to tell they should "be normal"!
Meanwhile, if random members of your org not being "normal" derails it you didn't have a successful movement anyway, unless by "be normal" you mean "don't be a creep", in which case you should use your fucking words. So there's a kernel of a point there if you tilt your head and squint. Optics don't matter the way libs think they do, but they can indeed make a difference in the sense that if broader society thinks your org is made up of creeps you probably won't succeed. But again, that has nothing to do with being normal! It has to do with not being creepy.
So, sure, if you have a concrete criticism for me about behaviour that might actually be upsetting or off-putting, let me know! If I've made that inappropriate behaviour such a part of my personality that I refuse to drop it, kick me out! It's fine, that's what you're meant to do. But if you're telling me to "be normal"? Go fuck yourself. I'm not normal, I honestly doubt the concept even makes sense, and although I think I'm decent at pretending to be normal, I shouldn't have to put up with people telling me to do better at it. If I pretend to be normal, that's my call.

Right? There are (unfortunately) plenty of votes in being a reactionary dickhead, but not when you also position yourself as left wing. Bigots aren't going to vote for a left wing candidate and the left aren't going to vote for a bigot, that's not how it works.
It's also fucking wild to say that people who care about trans issues have "never met a real voted", like... People who care about trans issues are real voters? Their votes count as much as anyone's? Not only that, they position themselves as a worker's party, do they think minorities are somehow not working class?! What class do they think the majority of minoritised people belong to?!! Trans people, queer people of all stripes, people with mental health issues, disabled people, people who belong to racial minorities... We're all massively overrepresented in the working class. It's always baffling to me that people supposedly on the left don't get this. Given that we are massively overrepresented in the working class, if you don't care about the things that are a threat to us, you're not safe to organise with, so we can't organise with you. That means our loved ones won't organise with you, and suddenly you're getting no, or very few, votes. Because you have the left wing stank on you so the reactionary elements of the working class won't support you either and you're banging on about workers so you won't get establishment support either. Wtf is your base even supposed to be.

It's so fucking weird to me that "giving trans people" human rights is something that has to be worked out and takes a lot of time. We have more important things to do right now, we can't treat people like humans
