"A Rockhoof and a Hard Place"

…Rockhoof struggles to fit into the modern world and needs some help from Twilight and friends. This is Rockhoof's last speaking appearance until the series finale.

"What Lies Beneath"

…The Young Six discover a secret underground portion of the School of Friendship, in which they must face a series of trials and tribulations. For those of us who enjoy seeing usual tomboys being girly, this episode contains a scene of that.

"Sounds of Silence"

…This episode was a smash hit in the fandom. I could've sworn it was in season 7, but apparently not. This episode introduces a new kind of pony called Kirin, named after the qilin of Sinosphere mythology. One of the Kirin, Autumn Blaze, voiced by Rachel Bloom, quickly became a fan favorite character despite never having a voiced appearance again, and only an on-screen appearance in the series finale after this episode. When Autumn Blaze first appeared on screen, I said out loud, quote, "Tweedledee, tweedledoo, I spy a new waifu!", which my mother found very amusing.

This episode contains our first musical number of the night.

"Father Knows Beast"

…A dragon crash-lands in Ponyville claiming to be Spike's dad, and Spike tries to learn how to be a "real dragon" from him. This episode shares a title with episode 60 of Filmation's Ghostbusters, the '80s cartoon with the gorilla.

This episode contains our second and last musical number of the night.

"School Raze" parts 1+2

…Can you believe we're already at the penultimate season finale? Magic mysteriously starts failing across Equestria, leaving the School of Friendship open to a coup by a traitor whose identity you may or may not suspect. That character's betrayal is important setup for the season 9 premiere and finale. :::
