So first my GPU wasn't being recognized. I tried a lot of things, including trying to install windows before realizing I needed to pay 100 euro for a license, so fuck that. Then I tried resetting my BIOS by removing the CMOS battery, which worked, but then my computer wouldn't boot. Then I reseated the hard drive and it booted, but only with the display plugged into the GPU. Then the mouse was really floaty and had input lag, so I changed to a wired connection, which did nothing, but then I went to BIOS settings and did nothing but somehow it fixed it. Now as far as I can tell, my hardware is all working, but when I launch steam, it seems like it keeps trying to launch but just doesn't. It's hard to explain, it's like if I launch steam, nothing happens, but then after a few seconds the screen "jumps" as if a new window had been opened on top of what I was already doing, or like I've been tabbed into another window. I'll reinstall steam tomorrow, because I assume it's a software issue.

FWIW, 9 out of 10 times (mouse / keyboard / controller) input lag is actually (video) output lag. It can even be introduced by settings on the display itself (for instance, my TV if it is in "Cinema Mode").

I made a very cute non-binary avatar. I like the character builder, especially since you actually get to see your character's face so much when playing. But I wish it had more, I wish I could change the face and body shape. Also I wish I could give horns to a wood elf.
Then I made a big hunky guardian elf man to protect me

It's sad that Sega has a back catalog of the greatest arcade racers ever, including OutRun 2/2006, and pretty much none of them are available on modern systems without emulation. The only exceptions I can think of are Daytona USA 1 (360 version on Xbox backwards compatibility, the game has been delisted), Daytona USA2 (in some Yakuza/Like A Dragon games as Sega Racing Classic 2) and Motor Raid (also in Yakuza, although I don't think it's anywhere near Sega's best).

Tried some more emulated Bloodborne after waiting a year, figuring performance would be much better, but it's not. Still not even able to sustain 30fps at "1080p" (patch to run at 720p enabled) with a bunch of performance-increasing mods (reduced LOD/texture detail, reduced cloth physics, chromatic aberration and motion blur off). The latest release is allegedly a huge performance boost, even, but I see almost no difference from a year ago. My PC's now 6 years old and not top of the line by any means, but it's been able to run just about everything I want it to. A 2060, an i5-9600k, and 16GB of RAM apparently just doesn't cut it I did beat Bloodstarved Beast at like 20-30fps with a ton of frame drops at least.
Got Vampire Survivors back up to 100% completion, some of the emerald diorama secret characters were bugged so I had to manually enter their codes which felt lame.
Did a few runs of Halls of Torment, not playing the DLC, just achievement hunting. It's still pretty good but I have totally forgotten what equipment I used for builds or what the good stats are.
As always, played more Warframe. Got the Hildryn prime resurgence relics done, and with Shade Prime I've now finished the robotics tab! Finished my last Lich too, which on the one hand means I don't need to do liches ever again, but on the other means that I am rapidly running out of things to boost MR that are remotely fun to do. Currently have 10 items available that aren't vaulted primes. The future is infinite railjack, void armageddon (curse you Hespar), and ESO, with Duviri puzzles on the side.

Back to work trying to stomp then conqueror France as England in EU 5 during the hundred years war. Currently feeling pretty good with phase 2 of the war. Managed to secure alliances with Castille Spain, Portugal, Aragon, the Papal States, and Brabant. So I'm hoping when I can hop on next time I play I can tear some good chunks off of France for phase 2 and set up for an English victory in phase 3 then see how viable it is to make an English-Portuguese-Spanish-French-Aragonese-Austrian crown union Unification play.

edit: also playing runescape but my brain didn't register that as a game im playing since im just always playing runescape
I started playing Frostpunk again, and decided to 100% the achievements. Which has led to some weird things, like I said in the general mega I spent 14 days doing nothing but executing engineers.

Yet more Hades! I just got the invitation quest for the Olympians, so nearing the epilogue. Still a great game, and I'm surprised to notice my skill/power keeping up with the heat as it rises. I did a full Extreme Measures run the other day and finished with death defiance left over! I'm sure a good portion is just pattern recognition
I will say an annoyance that's become more apparent is how opaque some of the mechanics are, particularly how some boons (especially legendaries) are locked behind taking other boons first.

Bought a 9070 XT. Plugged it in, Linux already has drivers, good to go, vroom vroom. Played a 12 year old game at 300 FPS, as is tradition after an upgrade. Back on my Total War kick (I already have like 500 hours across all the different games), this time with some minimal mods, since I've never really used them. Deciding between Shogun 2 or Three Kingdoms for a campaign though. Might also start Outer Worlds 2 like OP. I clowned hard on the first one because it was the most aggressively average game I've ever played, but I'm hearing better feedback about the 2nd one and want that Bethesda/Obsidian style game rn.

Tried to load a couple old saves in Cities: Skylines. Shit is impossible. Cloning the dinosaurs would be more simple. Little progress in WR:SR as I balance the idea of potentially starting a new map. Torn between "Kentuckygrad" (an extremely mountainous map where you're basically limited to building in the narrow hollers of the appalachian mountains) and doing DPRK again (much more laid back in terms of buildable space and resources).

i know i'm just so afraid to be sucked into the zone again. i was so obsessed i ended up in a tech news article about ksp related stuff lol.
literally an entire year of scribbling designs at work, beta testing for modders, running games with 100+ mods and eventually making my own sub-mods, and finally running headlong into the actual game limitations
one of the reasons i'm excited about it is it seems the engine was built from the ground up to overcome some of those limitations.

Highfleet.
Dune meets Kin-dza-dza with cultures being a mix of Russian Empire and Afghanistan with a touch of Persia and Central Asia. You command a fleet of 1000-ton metal bricks that fly on liquid methane and emit enough CO~2~ over the course of the campaign to raise global temperature by a couple degrees (which is counteracted by the nuclear winter). UI is absolutely incredible, clicking the buttons and toggles is immensely satisfying. The game also turns you into a Pavlov's dog, who gets all sweaty, when you hear Thermal signature detected.
CW for flashes, the game is extremely epilepsy-unfriendly.

Hoping the next EU5 patch fixes some of the annoying issues i'm having in warfare. If so, ill start a new campaign and play it through the week. Otherwise, just wasting time on BF6 and Escape from Duckov.

Been playing Tales of Maj'Eyal, it's a trad roguelike in a similar vein to, say, ADOM. My current character is a Doombringer, a person who was experimented on by demons but now wields their demonic strength against their former captors. You can add a custom tile for your character graphic, so I ripped a sprite from luvquita's Kemonomimi Daisy Companion mod for Doom to make bunny girl Daisy my TOME avatar:
(For those not steeped in Doom lore, Daisy was Doomguy's pet rabbit who was killed by the demons. She's back for revenge!)

Played a bit of this game Duel Corp. It’s pretty far from being finished and I didn’t get to play much but the combat is very Code Vein, it’s got retro pixel-y 3D graphics and it seems like there’s a whole faction system/world sandbox going on. Reminded me of the game from the video game episode of community except it was a 3D souls-like. All NPCs are named and can be schmoozed (and maybe romanced?), you can steal/kill and be punished for it or run out of town. Pretty neat but again, very far from done they only have once class available.

I reinstalled New Vegas for my 12th attempt at a villain run. I usually fold the first time I get the option to be mean to Victor. This time I've decided to take a different route and do a genocide run. The only character motivation I can find for being mean to Victor is being a heartless psychopath.
Also I chose to play as a woman, and I managed to make a real pretty face in character creation. My original plan was to play as a woman in the Legion, since it seemed like the most novel way to play a villainous character. Josh Sawyer had me in his sights and then I realized I could just kill all the powder gangers. Heck, I could just kill everybody.
In Tabletop Corner:
WoD has recovered from two catastrophic sessions, though my teammates really have to get better at not blowing our cover. My character is de-facto team captain and I absolutely did not design him with that in mind.

Been trying Where Winds Meet. It's pretty but it screams gacha-- the items are cosmetic but they have a leaderboard for "beauty score".
8
Runcible [none/use name] - 4w
I've been trying this too. It is decent but subtly off in a lot of ways. Feels pretty hollow in general. The UI is a complete mess. I know some of that is different norms but there's easily 20+ screens with info I want & I don't know how to get to all of them. I also have no idea what is going on with how gear and drops are categorized, which ones limit pickup, etc.
I am still enjoying it though.
5
HakFoo @lemmy.sdf.org - 4w
It gives me BDO vibes-- pretty, covered in elaborate systems and features, but will it actually gel into a living world, or will 95% of the player base be drawn to some single narrow meta?
I can already see the healing mechanic as rather a mess from the huge chat volume devoted to seeking it.

A while ago, I found out about a new game called Sektori, which is a twin stick shooter with roguelike elements made by a Finnish ex-Housemarque dev. If you liked Geometry Wars, you definitely need to try it. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2105620/Sektori/
Other than that, Night Striker Gear and the usual shmups and stuff.

The Felix series on Metal Gear made me really want to replay them and play the ones I never got around to so I'm starting with the MSX games. Finished MG1 the other day and now onto MG2. It's wild how much of the series' DNA can be traced back to these games.

i was playing team fortress two still, and overall, I'll say that like before, the players are a mixed bag in casual, and that I really should stop playing and listening to a video at the same time, prevents me from playing optimally and I can't even process the video well, especially since it's a multiplayer game..

Once Upon a Galaxy is my new favorite. Not sure why it has bad/mixed reviews because they don't pay wall anything it seems like. You never play against cards you don't own and all the characters unlock for free every few months. You only spend money if you want to play new stuff RIGHT NOW, but I've found there's a lot of variety already.
Anywho, it's an autobattler where you pick a champion with an ability. Then, you're presented with two shops each round where you can choose fighters and spells. Your fighters then battle against other teams. The winner will replenish 1/2 a heart if it's already been reduced by half, but not if it's empty. If the winner has 2 or less fighters survive, the loser loses 1/2 a heart. If the winner has 3 or more, the loser loses a full heart, but only if the heart was already full, otherwise it's the remaining half. Lose all 3 hearts and you're eliminated.
Each fighter has bronze, silver, and gold versions you level up into each time you select them from the shop. You get a new shop any time you choose a silver upgrade. Once they're upgraded to gold, you choose among three items equal to the fighter's tier. You can also get items by completing quests for certain fighters, like dealing 6 damage in a round or recruiting three villains from the shop.
The main way to win is to get as many bonus shops each turn, especially through abilities and items. It's a simple enough mechanic, yet there's all these combos and stuff you can do to get more upgrades than your opponents. Each player is recruiting from the same pool of fighters, so you want to be the one who has accessed more shops to inch out an advantage.
It's free and uses asynchronization, so you can play at your own pace each game to think about your choices.

Still working my way through Dragon Quest II. I'm a pretty good ways into the game so far and I like it a lot more than Dragon Quest I. It feels a lot less grindy and I'm enjoying the variety in monsters. Pretty harsh game though, your party members will drop dead instantly if you aren't careful. It feels like the best strategy a lot of the time is to just smack with the player character and defend with the other two, then heal up after. There's still times when there are other good strategies though, and having party members at all gives you more freedom in how you approach things, and I like that they each have strengths and weaknesses (even if they aren't super well balanced about it) so still a big step up from DQ1 for me. They give you no room for items either despite there being a lot of key items. I still haven't even tried the lottery yet because I only have room for a couple consumables and I've been holding on to them for emergencies lol. Still though, I'm liking it. The harshness of the game plays well into the general hopeless vibe the game's setting has in my opinion.

I played 1 and 2 recently, but I liked 1 better than 2. Ive heard good things about 3 😃
6
Demifriend [she/her] - 4w
Yeah I've heard 3 is really good, I'm looking forward to it! I know 2 has a pretty poor reputation and I can see why, but I dunno, something about it just clicks with me.
5
Belly_Beanis [he/him] - 4w
I enjoyed 2 over 1, as well. I liked how they made you balance between the three characters. You had to prioritize getting better equipment for the weakest person so they could help during fights.
But yeah, 3 is gonna knock your socks off if you've enjoyed 1 & 2. I want to go back and play the new remasters, but I know I've been spoiled by 3 so I probably wouldn't enjoy replaying the first two lol
5
Demifriend [she/her] - 4w
It's funny because I wasn't that into 1, like I didn't really dislike it and found it charming, but I didn't actually have that much fun. But I watched someone stream DQ1 HD, and I kept getting annoyed by the changes lol. It's too different, it's like a completely different game now and the changes they made didn't seem that great to me. I guess there's nothing wrong with it being completely different, but it wasn't what I was expecting at all. Maybe if I played it myself I would enjoy it more but watching it I was just like "what is this..."

batsforpeace [any, any] - 3w
going through the first areas of act 3 of bg3, took some fun detours like liberating Scratch’s courier dog friends without getting into combat with the city guards, it would not be a druid playthrough without doing that, took a bit of effort because they always attack their oppressive keeper before running away, had to buff and bless them from the roof so they’d survive the fight, also procured a landlord’s body to a hungry young mind flayer, earlier the landlord walked into an insect plague spell after he paid some mercs to kick out refugees from his house and start a fight, also everyone from the zentharim or dealing with them gets the smokepowder barrel treatment, they smuggled it into act 1 so what goes around comes around

I clowned hard on the first one because it was the most aggressively average game I've ever played, but I'm hearing better feedback about the 2nd one and want that Bethesda/Obsidian style game rn.
metroid prime 3 on steam deck :3
Tried to load a couple old saves in Cities: Skylines. Shit is impossible. Cloning the dinosaurs would be more simple. Little progress in WR:SR as I balance the idea of potentially starting a new map. Torn between "Kentuckygrad" (an extremely mountainous map where you're basically limited to building in the narrow hollers of the appalachian mountains) and doing DPRK again (much more laid back in terms of buildable space and resources).
Like a dragon infinite wealth, love this game itchy balls is me fr
KSP. I got a crewed ship to Duna and did a landing. I also got a shitload of science points by putting a mapping satellite in a polar orbit of Moho.
i want to give the new Kitty spiritual successor a chance in a year
It is currently being offered gratis and updating every day or two, doesn't cost anything but time and potential crashes to test it out.
i know i'm just so afraid to be sucked into the zone again. i was so obsessed i ended up in a tech news article about ksp related stuff lol.
literally an entire year of scribbling designs at work, beta testing for modders, running games with 100+ mods and eventually making my own sub-mods, and finally running headlong into the actual game limitations
one of the reasons i'm excited about it is it seems the engine was built from the ground up to overcome some of those limitations.
new dwarf fortress now that the siege update is out
oh shit!
yeah they have battering rams and pickaxes now, you can't just hole up behind an indestructible raised bridge made out of talc or something.
Been grinding through Enshrouded lately. They've really polished it and padded it out since last time I played. I'm having a great time with it.
some more time stranger with my fiancée and a little KeeperRL, a fun roguelike reimagining of dungeon keeper
Playing Diablo 4 with my girlfriend UwU
Been playing Tales of Maj'Eyal, it's a trad roguelike in a similar vein to, say, ADOM. My current character is a Doombringer, a person who was experimented on by demons but now wields their demonic strength against their former captors. You can add a custom tile for your character graphic, so I ripped a sprite from luvquita's Kemonomimi Daisy Companion mod for Doom to make bunny girl Daisy my TOME avatar:
(For those not steeped in Doom lore, Daisy was Doomguy's pet rabbit who was killed by the demons. She's back for revenge!)
Love ToME! Even though I got over 100 hours played I still feel like I don't understand half the game mechanics.
I'm proud that I actually cleared Insane diff once, but only because I figured out a class that's way stronger than all the others I've tried
just finished crosscode+dlc after ~80 hours
why did it have to be so good and wholesome

Played a bit of this game Duel Corp. It’s pretty far from being finished and I didn’t get to play much but the combat is very Code Vein, it’s got retro pixel-y 3D graphics and it seems like there’s a whole faction system/world sandbox going on. Reminded me of the game from the video game episode of community except it was a 3D souls-like. All NPCs are named and can be schmoozed (and maybe romanced?), you can steal/kill and be punished for it or run out of town. Pretty neat but again, very far from done they only have once class available.
Combination of World of Tanks and Mordhau (i dont know why i do this to myself)
I mostly played Nubby's Number Factory, i won as Mutant Tony and Criminal Tony, so im doing more challenges now
Also i have been watching video about the new Total Warhammer dlc, im really liking the new norsca units and rework
FTL: Multiverse mod.
Achieved the alternate ending on a coupla ships but haven't yet had the rng to get any of the Zoltan ship unlock events.
Update: Finally unlocked the monk one, now I just gotta get an ending with it to unlock more.
I finished crosscode, and have been plinking a little time into ballxpit and power wash simulator 2 every day.
And just started metaphor refantazio today, that will be my main game for the next month or 3.
Been revisiting some Castlevanias - first I did Curse of Darkness which I never played before but the last week or so it's been Circle of the Moon and Aria of Sorrows, both of which I played before. I finally got the chaos ring in aria, I did it in Dawn years ago, I just really love the Soma games. The souls system is fun as hell.
i was playing team fortress two still, and overall, I'll say that like before, the players are a mixed bag in casual, and that I really should stop playing and listening to a video at the same time, prevents me from playing optimally and I can't even process the video well, especially since it's a multiplayer game..
Playing backrooms excape together with my partner rn actually
Gunna' keep playing Blastwind I think. And then I don't know. Might finish watching Birdcage Of Horror on Dreamcast. And maybe I can finish Scorn and SHf on NG+.
It's free and uses asynchronization, so you can play at your own pace each game to think about your choices.
osrs sailing. i like it.
Roped some friends into the Wildgate free weekend, might have converted a few into ship crew. Love me some coop ship games.
Started Expedition 33. Almost gave up during the intro because it took me so many attempts to beat Maella at the festival. Turns out the fight is harder than anything in act 1.
Ive heard good things about 3 😃
Yeah I've heard 3 is really good, I'm looking forward to it! I know 2 has a pretty poor reputation and I can see why, but I dunno, something about it just clicks with me.
Maybe if I played it myself I would enjoy it more but watching it I was just like "what is this..."
going through the first areas of act 3 of bg3, took some fun detours like liberating Scratch’s courier dog friends without getting into combat with the city guards, it would not be a druid playthrough without doing that, took a bit of effort because they always attack their oppressive keeper before running away, had to buff and bless them from the roof so they’d survive the fight, also procured a landlord’s body to a hungry young mind flayer, earlier the landlord walked into an insect plague spell after he paid some mercs to kick out refugees from his house and start a fight, also everyone from the zentharim or dealing with them gets the smokepowder barrel treatment, they smuggled it into act 1 so what goes around comes around
Currently playing through Red Faction with the Alpine Faction mod that makes it play nice on modern PCs. I feel like if Red Faction 2 didn't suck, people would remember Red Faction in the same vein as Half-Life.
