[0/100] Bus tickets across the state for some struggling friends (CW: Drugs)
Some days I'm really happy to be a sober living house manager. Today is one of those days. One of my housemates told me that they have some friends in dire circumstances and I was able to be a great help tonight.
My housemate's friend (We'll call him Jesse for the sake of this story) relapsed on fentanyl this morning after 9 months of sobriety. Kicked out of his sober living house with nowhere to go, Jesse calls one of my housemates to ask about sleeping in his car. Having someone that tests dirty on the property is a huge violation of the rules, but I'm not going to let them sleep on the street when we have a solution so I tell my housemate to go pick them up. Jesse brings his girlfriend with him to help hold himself accountable. I offered them our couch for the night, but they refused because of how guilty he feels relapsing and being around a sober living house. Problem is this is a sober living under the same non-profit as the house Jesse got kicked out of. So him and his girlfriend have very temporary residence at our house, if they get caught here we're all going homeless.
I fed them, gave them the passcode to our door so they can use the bathroom, and I'm staying up for the night with some Narcan in my pocket in case they're lying about not using right now. I do believe that he's sobering up and she's not using, he seemed a bit dazed but not high when we were talking. His girlfriend seems completely sober, maybe even still withdrawaling from what she's said to me. They're coming to a meeting with me tomorrow so that they can get some of their emotions in order. Right now their plan is to move in with family across the state. My housemate with the car can't drive them because his car isn't dependable enough to go across the state and back, so we're looking at Greyhound tickets right now. For both of them, it'd be $150. I still have some leftover money from donating plasma today that I plan on pitching in here.
They want the money sent to me so I can just buy the tickets for them. His girlfriend is only a couple of weeks clean, and he just used this morning so they both feel like having money would be a trigger for them at the moment.

Of course. Addicts gotta look out for each other. Worst case scenario I go to donate some more plasma in a few days and I use that money to get them where they need to go.
