cloudflare is down, everyone.

what do you think of cloudflare, what can we do about the ceo of the cdn company, and are there any alternatives to their cdn?

Given this brazen lack of stability and accountability, I believe the only solution is to nationalize Cloudflare.

i think all monopolies should be split and collectivized by the workers. seriously!

It's counterproductive to split monopolies before collectivizing them. Collectivize them as monopolies. There's no need for the people to compete with each other / themselves.

Depends on the nature of the monopoly. A lot of modern corporations have extensive vertical horizontal integration that might not make sense to preserve in collectivization.

That's true, but in those cases they're not being split to create competition, since the resulting companies wouldn't be operating in the same fields.

Why would vertical integration not be worth preserving in a state monopoly?

1
PKMKII [none/use name] - 4w

It leads to a lot of unnecessary redundancy. Say you fold Department X from Corporation L into Agency B during collectivization, and then later collectivize Corporation M that has a department that does pretty much the same thing as Department. Unless there’s something particularly specialized about the nature if that department within the context of Corporation M, it’s more efficient to just roll it into Agency B as well.

Sure, but wouldn't doing that tend to increase rather than decrease the overall amount of vertical integration within Agency B?

Bugger, I just realized I got it backwards and should’ve been using “horizontal integration” this whole time

i mean split all monopolies into different companies, and have those collectivized by the workers. seriously!

I guess I'm happy I moved piratefeeds.net off of cloudflare a few days ago...

Who could have foreseen that centralizing critical internet infrastructure under a handful of providers could be a bad idea? Except the people who built the early internet as intentionally decentralized ofc

Just stop using CDNs, just ship fewer assets. I will not be convinced otherwise.

Seriously though I did experience this first hand because my home server is exposed to the internet via Cloudflare's DNS. And shortly thereafter when my CTO was like "ah yes the website and app is down and no one can access the company services because our VPN is also cloudflare.
