Great video with solid analysis I'd say—as usual, {el problema es el capitalismo|the problem is capitalism}
—and I think he does a good job of weaving that in with the literary analysis. Perhaps the historical literary analysis section drags on a bit, but as far as video essays go it's not a major offense. Also, the paper he mentions, Ambient Literature and the Aesthetics of Calm: Mood Regulation in Contemporary Japanese Fiction, is on Anna's Archive (haven't had a chance to read it yet).
The answer this video provides is basically that systemic alienation leads people to idealize innocence and retreat into an endless source of simulated innocence as comfort: surrounded by comfort, they never grow as people, and this state is fertile ground for the "snake oil" of Nazism.— This video also explores a bit how non-sexual fixation on the innocence of youth is sort of one side of the same coin as sexual fixation on the same, but that's not really the same as just "because they're pedophiles", right?
…I dunno, "because they're pedophiles" is a fun thing to say, sure, but it's also an answer that doesn't require a lot of thought. Because riddle me this, do pedophiles grow on coconut trees?

leads people to idealize innocence and retreat into an endless source of simulated innocence as comfort
What's ironic is that the text itself repudiates this: the kids all graduate highschool at the end of the show, and their last band practice is extremely bittersweet- every moment with your friends and loved ones is precious and you need to enjoy the good times while they last because nothing lasts forever, everyone eventually has to grow up and assume adult responsibilities.
But conservatives aren't known for their media literacy.

I'm reminded of Evangelion, where there's this whole anti-escapist message but then it still ends up merchandized to hell and back and people still argue about which 14 year old is the best "waifu".

I mean, Anno got paid to yell at the people who missed the point for 5 entire movies (End of Eva + the Rebuilds) by the people who missed the point, so y'know, go get that bag I guess.

Bittersweet.
Also K-ON continues at university in manga, though I have not read it

College arc K-On is nothing much to write home about honestly, which is probably why it didn't get adapted. They introduce the grumpiest butch lesbian coded character to act as straight man to Yui, but the humor falls kinda flat cos the punchline is just Yui failing to adult. The side plot of Azusa taking over the band club and trying to fill her seniors shoes is a lot more funny and compelling imo.

What if Korean April 26 Animation Studio made a show about a teenage synthpop girlband and it was called DPRK-On
That'd be nice wouldn't it

edit: also, this video once again reminded my of how fucking annoyed I am that some power-tripping Wikipedian got demographic information (i.e. shōjo, shōnen, josei, seinen) batch removed from the infoboxes of all manga pages on English Wikipedia. It's pertinent information!

Not all CGDCT fans are
but the nazi ones are.
