John Mulaney and Neal Katyal are working together on a TV show which Katyal described as a "West Wing for the Supreme Court." [More inside]

Katyal is a super-lib lawyer who charges $3,250 an hour and he'll do anything for money. The photo is him hanging out at Burning Man.

He defended Nestlé at the Supreme Court. He argued corporations can use child slave labor because international law does not apply to them. His logic was that the company which supplied Zyklon B to the Nazis was not indicted at the Nuremberg trials.

In 2020, Katyal represented Nestlé and Cargill at the Supreme Court in Nestlé USA, Inc. v. Doe, a class-action suit brought by former enslaved children who were kidnapped and forced to work on cocoa farms in the Ivory Coast. Katyal's argument was that Nestlé and Cargill should not be held liable under United States law for their use of child slave labor because international law does not apply to corporations.

Katyal cited as an example that the company which supplied Zyklon B to the Nazis to kill Jews and other minorities in extermination camps was not indicted at the Nuremberg trials. Katyal was criticized by publications including The New Republic.

Can I use "[redacted]"? Or is that a big no-no now?

plot twist: the show is extremely cynical, portrays the court justices literally taking giant bags of money in exchange for rulings, tone is reminiscient of veep or yes minister.

If only.

I'm certain it's going to be both-sides-ism on a stupendous and brain dead level.

You may disagree with the rulings made by the conservative justices but this third branch created the Constitution is blah blah blah-fucking-blah wave the flag God Bless America the United States is the Great Country in the History of the World. Furthermore...

ngl the dozens of staff weekend at bernies-ing around those corpses would be good fodder for a comedy. 'west wing' seems like a bad comparison for that, but John Mulaney has only done comedy shit so idk what they're going for

I first learned about the show in a very-annoying-to-read blog post. Mulaney is cuckoo for the Constitution. The text has stuff like this...

When asked about Mulaney’s presence at oral argument in Learning Resources, [Akhil Amar] described the comedian to Business Insider as “a serious public intellectual with a deep interest in law and American civics.” Amar added that Mulaney has listened to all 250 episodes of Amar’s podcast, Amarica’s Constitution, a description which, if accurate, I cannot imagine applies to literally anyone else.

If I remember correctly - Amar is a self-described "liberal" who is a ginormous dipshit and he just happens to agree with every dogshit GOP SCOTUS ruling ever.

I forgot something. Here's the link - if you want to annoy yourself. https://ballsandstrikes.substack.com/p/a-brief-history-of-awful-tv-shows

A good reminder is that Mulaney is a recovering cocaine addict. It wouldn't be out the picture if he got into this stuff while absolutely out of his mind, and now has to justify it in sobriety.

Maybe they mean Parks and Rec.

many comedians have successfully pivoted to more dramatic careers... though I suspect John Mulaney will not be one of them

Tales from the Cryptkeeper reboot?

My lib parents showed me some of Mulayneys recent comedy (on his show?) and it relied on ample Soviet bashing so I fully am prepared for him to go full reactionary turbo-lib.

Liberals are so insane about Russia. They want so badly for Trump to be a foreign agent of chaos instead of what he is - an incredibly American buffoon-dipshit racist. And liberal veneration of the constitution as some wondrous document reaches utterly bizarre levels of worship. It's as though they are devout and the constitution is a god-given document came down from a mountain top delivered by a prophet. It's quite something to have that opinion in normal times. It's insane to have it in 2025 when the reactionary GOP SCOTUS is wrecking everything and can't be stopped.

Reminder that not only is that what he wore to Burning man, but that he wore that to the same burning man that brace-cowboy made think there was an ebola outbreak.

And audio.

I don't know the rules for audio. My wild guess is that audio can only be recorded for final arguments.
