[repost] Is it payday for you? :) | Car Fund for Blk disabled home! ($8/$3k) | KOFI tiers for bills, rent, other needs (starting at $35)

https://chuffed.org/project/hitandruninjuredandcartotaled

Hi all, grateful for anyone who takes the time to read.

My friend is a Black disabled trans person who lost their car in a hit-and-run Oct 15th. Its impossible to explain the context that lead up to the wreck in a short sentence, so bear with me.

It is critical you understand why this isnt "just a car". Mem is AuDHD w/ CPTSD, and so is their roommate; their needs are abundant, colorful, and worthy of being met.

They've been crowdfunding for survival since leaving abuse before the pandemic had begun, and after repeat infection/biohazard exposures, have steadily lost ability & capacity. The months before the wreck Mem had been seeking support to get glasses, car maintenance, but as bills piled & groceries unaffordable, this went unfulfilled. The hit-and-run happened on a drive to get a meal, and without glasses it was hard to see what may have otherwise not resulted in the loss of their car or multiple injuries!

Their car helped with a multitude of things. Accessing meals. Food pantries. In-person support from organizations with paying off bills! Thrift clothes, tho they never had enough funds to do so. Even emotionally, it provided time & space away from conflict at home. Hell, if it hadn't been totaled post-wreck, they would've been able to go to hospital sooner rather than the 5 days it took to afford a rideshare without going hungry.

The thrift clothes part is also pretty important. Winter is nearing, and they don't have warm clothing; all of it was lost in a basement sewage flood before their most recent poverty-driven displacement. Now their lease nears its end & inspection coming soon, the possibility of displacement (or worse, homelessness) without a car? Will not go well. They were barely able to move to their current home WITH one.

TLDR: This fund will help them get a used car after losing theirs Oct 15th. But it is also linked to winter preparation, & will undoubtedly keep them safer, especially as bills are now low again, more manageable. They'd appreciate any help to keep it that way, via kofi where different specific bills & needs can be met individually, if you'd prefer. (All are already due, and rents just two weeks away. Avoiding accumulation would be life-saving right before the holidays which we should be boycotting & encouraging to boycott, given the state of things (DEI, SNAP cut, medicaid cut soon? so much) but also... leftist principle? capitalism bad? Encourage it by sending this around, under that particular context :') )

thank u!
