I was about to ask shouldn't the whip be getting these 7-8 Dems into holding the line? But the whip did it?! Worst person at this job ever.

a cynic might suggest the whip acted on Schumer's behalf and is eating the bad PR for him

Would seem a little weird to sacrifice his own PR for Schumer's though. Not sure politicians are that un-selfish lol.

He's just demonstrating his loyalty to Capital. A comfy 6-7 figure consulting job is waiting for him at the end of political tenure.

dems dont act quite like a proper party but they engage in patronage and being loyal to the leader in one of the houses assures preferrential treatment and a purse for reelection.

all these senate dems are also sure their voters will be made to forget about this

I also heard all these Dems aren't up got reelections for various reasons (they're retiring, it's not their cycle, etc). Even more a reason just relying on voting to get the people's will isn't enough. You actually need to pick the right candidates, too.

It actually made me wonder if straight up bribes or cushy, private jobs post being in office is the game for them.

Would be cooler if they were scarred from putting up a real fight
