Thousands of carnists suddenly care about animal rights when a small group of basement-dwelling nazis tell them a socialist used a shock collar on a dog once and apparently that's news

"I'm really passionate about animal welfare!" I proudly declare between bites of my meat lover's pizza.

to the extent that some normies are getting swept up in the smear campaign because they've never heard of LSF or destiny, they're caring about a pet and the violation of the owner's social obligation to his pet, rather than animal rights nebulously. No idea why that shit rated a forbes article.

Ram_The_Manparts [he/him] - 2mon
I'm pretty sure that most of these people don't really care about anything beyond stirring the shit

The suffering of something that people aren’t very familiar with seems distant. The suffering of something that people are very familiar with seems immediate. You know we’re kind of fucked in the hearts and minds department if we can’t wrap our heads around the very basic contradiction of “I eat meat but don’t like seeing a dog get hurt” that the vast, vast, vast majority of people live with.

FYI "published on forbes" has about the same level of vetting as "published on substack" or "posted on lemmy". Almost anyone can do it with a little bit of determination.

Pretty sure a lot of Forbes articles aren’t even written by “journalists” actually employed by Forbes i think they contract that shit out pay per article/amount of views
Edit: seems to be confirmed by others in the comments

Ah yes the article who only directly quotes two people:
Ethan "My wife is a (literal) terrorist" Klein
Steven "Destiny" "I literally groomed andremovedd underage girls, filmed it, and used the videos to groom more underage girls toremoved and film" Bonnell

Oh I think he's ultra double secret mega fucked. My favorite part was when the messages got out from him talking to a community member/obiter (can't remember) and they asked him why he has gigs and gigs of self shot revenge/kiddy porn:
"I can't delete it that would be interfering with an investigation."
The fuck 😅

You know what’s crazy? I go outside and hear nothing about this. Vast majority of the world has no idea who Hasan even is but if you go online, particualry Reddit, you’d think this was a global catastrophe.

One thing i noticed about every online anglo place is that online stream/video drama is always incredibly overblown. If not for me sitting here i wouldn't ever heard about any of those guys, even the bigger ones like Destiny.

Most online spaces will have the majority of their content made by a tiny number of users. Those users are online a lot and post a lot. Because they (we) live online, they'll pollinate opinions on online drama to places where it's of limited relevance. Then because of the memetic nature of the drama, some critical mass of other online people in the pollinated spaces will become aware of the drama and form opinions on it, spreading them elsewhere and continuing the cycle. Notably, this can only really penetrate into spaces where a critical mass of very online people can possibly be accrued.
