Support Needed on the Picket Lines - 10/8 Strike in Colorado Springs, CO

cross-posted from: https://hexbear.net/post/6336314

Hello everybody. The teachers in Colorado Springs, CO from School District 11 will be on strike on 10/8. They've been without a contract for about a year and the school board has said they do not intend to ever negotiate a new contract or to continue recognizing the union in any capacity.

The teachers are planning a one day strike to begin escalating the conflict. Of course, there's been a huge intimidation campaign with threats of illegal firing (and the intimidation has definitely had an impact). The media has also played their part by amplifying anti-union rhetoric. My wife is worried that a few of the schools will have some lonely picket lines where there might only be a handful of people out there that could really use a show of community support. Hopefully it's just a crowd everywhere.

The plan is to have picket lines at all of the District 11 schools starting at 7:30 am for several hours, mid-day there will be some neighborhood canvassing in some areas, and at 2:30 pm there will be a large rally at Acacia Park in downtown Colorado Springs.

If you live in the Colorado Front Range and you can make the trip, your solidarity would count for a lot. There are minority unions in the surrounding district, but this is the only school district in the area where the teachers have been able to win a union contract. If this is taken away by the right-wing assholes on the D11 school board it's going to set in an era of the bleakest reaction.

I'll be out there with my family. Message me for more specific info or go to these links:

I don't know how cross posting works. I just wanted to make sure this was visible.
