Feeling... Concerned

Due to recent events, I'm not feeling very hopeful 😭. How's everyone doing?

queermunist she/her - 3mon

Democrats have a spine, they use it to stand up to their base and put down resistance.

Dort_Owl [they/them, any] - 3mon

THIS. This is the exact kind of spinelessness that made me lose faith in the Democrat/liberal style parties of the west. Their inability to step up and defend vulnerable people when it matters.

Pretty words about progressive ideals are worthless if you don't put your money where your mouth is in material reality. They had 4 years of Biden to prevent this from happening. 4 years to put policies in place that would protect trans people and to put policies in place that would make it harder for fascism. Instead they compromised with Nazis.

can (my enemy) get a spine and stand up for me <---- statements dreamed up by the utterly deranged

The attempt to scapegoat trans people was immediate and even more detached from reality than usual. Reactionaries are consolidating their hate patterns, so you would of course want to see a countervailing force to organize against them. Naturally this is not libetals, who, even if they were pro-trans enough, do not have any idea how to materially oppose anything.

That leaves the left, such as it is, which is growing and really not that bad at this sort of thing. We are the actual material threat of violence in defense of drag queen story hours (not always trans but at least adjascent), pride marches in unfriendly territory, secured autonomous zones. Obviously there is a lot of room for improvement and growth in numbers, but our trends are good. And reactionaries have more state power but are personally much less dedicated and more cowardly. So even as the flames rise, and there are things to be afraid of, we can still shield each other, comrades, and build to win the fight.

Unfortunately the Dems have put their money on Gavin Newsom and he seems to agree with Charlie on trans issues

39
roux [they/them, xe/xem] - 3mon

Not surprised that Gavin, "kill, kill, kill, kill, kill the poor" Newsom would also be a transphobe.

hey now, that's not what gavin said! he said "kill, kill, kill, kill, kill and absolutely FUCK UP the poor"! get it right, man thumb-cop

are you trans? are you healthy physically? if not do you have the ability to get yourself in shape?

we are reaching a point where networks, community, and uhh, readiness, are going to be the survival orders of the day. get yourself there however you can people. not a drill, etc.

I never feel hopeful, hope this helps

BountifulEggnog [she/her] - 3mon

but more seriously, I feel really bad about the long term. Climate change is going to continue to fuel fascism. Will the right successfully leverage Kirk to strip our rights and get us thrown in institutions? idk. With Skrmetti there's no reason all of our care can't be taken away. They can make hrt controlled and throw us in prison for that. Or "public indecency". When will it happen? shrug-outta-hecks idk.

We are a tiny, tiny minority. We are, by the nature of this, spread out. Very easy to demonize. People focus on appearance. On protecting their cis children from the horrors of dysphoria. I don't see any bright future for trans people tbh. We are the perfect target and climate change is going to ramp fascism up more then ever before. Lots, lots of people are going to die.

23
BountifulEggnog [she/her] - 3mon

Oh bonus points is cis people basically no where give a rats ass about us. Maybe Cuba. Nobody actually cares if treatment for our medical condition is banned, hell a lot of places ban it too. Fuck cis people in general.

18
BountifulEggnog [she/her] - 3mon

Damn I'm actually feeling extremely shit about this

15
Le_Wokisme [they/them, undecided] - 3mon

if it makes you feel any better i've seen a couple non-celebrity cis people in the UK raising money for mermaids. It's no 5th of november but apparently even terf island isn't an empathy black hole.

TankieTanuki [he/him] - 3mon

What is this headline even saying here? That Tyler Robinson was trans?

15
BountifulEggnog [she/her] - 3mon

I think the advocates is trying to still pin this on trans people because he (supposedly?) had a trans gf

24
TankieTanuki [he/him] - 3mon

Ah, I missed that development

11
BountifulEggnog [she/her] - 3mon

Its very new and I don't know how confirmed it is.

15
Damarcusart [he/him, comrade/them] - 3mon

It's complete nonsense, they were claiming his landlord who he rented a room from was trans and they were in a relationship based off of literally nothing at all.

17
bier @feddit.nl - 3mon

What I still don't get, why trans people? Like why are people mad at them, did they get beat up by a trans person? Do they even know or interact with a trans person? Like what the actual fuck! And also 10 years ago it seems no one cared and now it's all you hear, honestly why the fuck did they pick trans people as the scapegoat?

7
SnuggleButt [he/him] - 3mon

Because they’re an extremely small minority that don’t really have any voice at all in society, they’ve been under pressure for far longer than you think in the western world, and it’s easy for pigs to correlate the care they need to transition with something bad

For any chuds who have even a semblance of critical thinking, it’s actually super easy to get them think about it. You can tell them that even if they’re right about the issue (which they’re not) why are they prioritizing an issue that is literally a rounding error in society and not the greater economic/social issues at hand? They don’t expect you to, at least hypothetically, agree with them, and they can’t really argue against the priority issue. It absolutely stunlocks them because for a moment they have to consider, and I being misdirected?

WalrusDragonOnABike [they/them] - 3mon

For those in power, I'd imagine having some minority to target is generally just a way to deflect. The reason those without power buy into it is probably mostly misogyny. Basically comes down to men who feel like being a (often specifically white) man needs to be special or else they have nothing because they are losers and they know it. Trans people directly challenge the notion, especially trans fems by willingly transitioning away from being a man.

Due to recent events, I’m not feeling very hopeful 😭. How’s everyone doing?

Logically, I realize things could get a lot worse quickly and I worry that maybe getting out of here (at least out of this state).

Emotionally, fine mostly. It hasn't really hit, I think because I haven't really experienced any sort of overt discrimination personally. >
