Why the hell share a pirate feed for The War Nerd

Not to sound like a dick. But they put their own subscriber feed out there, its the first result when you search in your podcast app. Its gonna come up before a non subscriber feed. I'm not sure anyone has ever subscribed to their non subscriber feed except in error.

It's almost not even worth thinking about.

Not trying to sound like a dick.

Then don't.

I'm not sure if they intentionally don't pay-gate their feed, or it just got leaked by someone else. Unlike Patreon-hosted feeds their subscriber link is the same for everyone, so it's extremely easy to leak. Anybody could have uploaded it to Fyyd.

Either way, what difference does it make? It's not like mirroring the feed is stealing ad revenue from them. It's not even messing up their episode stream statistics, since the download links in the pirate feed are still to their host. I added it for convenience since people were asking about it, I don't see any difference with that compared to sharing the leaked link.

EDIT: to be fair, this one doesn't need to be mirrored like the Patreon feeds. I just automatically treated it like the others, didn't realize I could just link their feed from my main page. I've changed that now.

I just dont think theres much of a point to pirating the feed is all.

If they are posting their subscriber episodes publicly, which is unclear, this link just exposes the feed to more people ultimately. I know RSS XML rehosters and those who've taken it further sometimes didn't listen to any shows themselves, but also didn't exclude this show in the past, eg kingdex: https://web.archive.org/web/20230619065726/https://kingdex.xyz/feeds/

For some I've followed, the feeds containing subscriber episodes that appear in public podcast app/aggregator searches were usually mistakenly shared publicly somehow. No clue if the rehosted feed for this one provides any redundancy, if the podcast episodes have the same URL in the XML then no.

It isn't. They are. They 100% are. They've been doing this since at least the beginning of the first trump administration. If you think it had utility to rehost it, I'm not gonna stop you. I just dont see the utility given that they have posted this publicly for nigh a decade.

Personally, I didn’t know they didn’t pay-gate any of the content and just assumed.

Thanks for the correction.
