Hi empoc comrades! School has started back up for me which is fun, I enjoy school and I really like my classes this semester. Also I borrowed a physical copy of The Wretched of the Earth from one of my profs and I’ve started reading it. I’m enjoying it so far.

All the anti-ice and pro-migrant marches in the US have made me hopeful
Miserable day today. Lots of silly things happened ranging from building fires casing road closures, protests, extremely tight schedules, having no leader bus- but worst of all, got yelled at by passengers for being late. The city I service is also my hometown and holy shit. What a mess.
sometimes, bad days like that just happen, and don't worry, it's not your fault. That's just life.

A while ago I mentioned a woman from my country (Guatemala) of Danish descent and a few wondered if her grandparents were fascists. Ran into her again and asked what brought her grandparents to Guatemala. They came in the early 1920’s and were actually communists who saw Guatemala as a fresh opportunity to do their own thing.
Her parents ended up being the fascists after living through the Guatemalan civil war and being bombarded with US anti-Communist propaganda. She herself is a neoliberal and while that’s still cringe af it’s better than being a mouth-foaming fascist.

I guess, being white, they turned into comprador-aligned labor aristokkkrats/petit-bourgeois as well?

Sort of? I know one of her parents is a doctor and the other works with the national park management. Better off than most but not exactly labor aristocrats
This only took me about 3 or 4 days to complete. I'm genuinely impressed by and proud of myself.

Y'all see the Cincinnati stuff? Nazis tried to do a rally then the community/hood pulled up and scared them off?
That's the energy I know my people have and has always had. These white led orgs are too scared to run defense or any kind of armed training because it might scare people away. Turns out it scares away Nazis like we always knew.

Good. Them Nazi punks can fuck off.

Was coming up with some ideas for another song tonight, and I got this one down.
Someone told me that my music should be called "beach metal." Ha!
Definitely gonna expand to a full song.
I got about 11 minutes and 30 seconds of material for a debut right now. I'm aiming to get it in the 40ish or 45ish minute range.
I will record real, physical basslines when I'm able to get a hold of some cheap used 7-string bass, but with my current situation, I'm hoping that I can find some way to get making regular money to do that soon.
Apparently Netflix dropped Karla Sofia Gascon (the lead from emilia perez who is mega racist) so that means the wont paid for her to go to all the pre-award ceremonies and other movie events so she will have to pay out of pocket
This comes after she had an interview defending herself saying some tweets were fake and misleading plus that if she was racist she wouldnt have made the movie with her co-star (who is of dominican decent)

I really liked this weeks issue of the ultimates with their version of luke cage, they made him a revolutionary

Never been a big Marvel guy (more of a DC fan), but I liked the Defenders series on Netflix. I might have to peruse that series though if it's going to be based.

Wait the ultimates comics are good now? I stopped reading them entirely after Ultimatum completely turned me off from it.

There is a new ultimate universe (old one was destroyed) this one is ruled by the reed richards of the old ult. universe who has manipulated its history since the end of ww2 to make a world goverment under him and has eliminated heroes before they become heros like making the radiactive spider not bite peter paker plus other things
It is common for a show to come around with a good social commentary (squid game, severance), me to be interested in that social commentary and get dogpiled by people because I “can’t turn off your brain and let people enjoy things because nothing is going to change”
Maybe things could change if you thought about the message and did something about it. Ya know, like your religion

some people really hate media having themes, even if they are basic like "Greed is bad" they just want treats and nothing else, i was reading the absolute superman comic and the main bad org is an evil corporation that oppresses people and there was a dude crying that the comic was anti-amerikkkan and was pro-killing amerikkkans because some characters in the comic said "i hope superman beats the evil corp"

Yeah he should punch up on criminals coming from disadvantaged backgrounds and nothing else. No message behind that I'm sure. Nope even spiderman being the everyman struggling with bills like the rest has no message there either.

When the first season of Squid Game came out I took a while to watch it and it was so amazing. But then when I talked to people about it all anyone ever wanted to talk about was how good they would be at the games and all that and I was like no one wants to talk about the themes?
Similarly, I had recommended Severance to someone a while ago. While I didn't say anything about the commentary on alienation and workplace tyranny, I thought I had at least explained the premise in a way that it would still be interesting. Safe to say they still haven't watched it.

I’ll be honest. I’ve seen occasional complaints that this site is filled with racism or “white” takes but I don’t really see it. I think hanging around gore/horror communities and the toxicity that comes with that makes anything I see outside of it pretty tame in comparison.

Whenever an issue regarding PoC intersects with another marginalized group, whites on this site will side with the other group while ignoring PoC points on intersectionality.
There's also a lot of white people brainworms that's not overt racism, but has racist history. Property rights, tone policing, downplaying the brutality of slavery/genocide/colonialism, and other white defensiveness is fairly frequent.

Now that you mention it I do remember seeing some of that with indigenous rights. Sometimes mocking their beliefs or using the old “disease killed them all not systemic American genocide.” Shit pissed me off so much I took a break from the site for a while.
