I remember watching a video essay about an anime that went pretty much exactly like this but I forgot what it was called. Like even with the creator perfectly describing internalized misogyny and egg imposter syndrome but maintained that the character wasn't trans. Except in the anime the character literally turns into a woman but it's supposed to be about "male gets opportunity to become woman but he is still male mentally" and its supposed to be a self insert for the author. Egg prime directive and all but I do hope the creator figures it out.

yeah gwyndolin is part of a long line of trans women in anime and adjacent spaces (there's got to be a better way to shorten that) who just are not acknowledged as such by anyone involved or 90% of the fans. goes back to characters like hibari from stop! hibari-kun, who lives full time as a woman and says "i wish to be perceived as a woman by everyone" but the artist refers to her as male. most recent major one i can think of is dragona joestar. she gets injections that give her boobs, passes as a woman, gets sexually assaulted several times for explicitly transmisogynistic reasons. the unofficial english translation refers to her as male, but the official french translation refers to her as a woman
it's SUCH A MASSIVE THING and i have no clue how it got to be this way
