Did a bit of a test; lying on job applications was all it took to land an interview lol

I’ve run into a problem from here though. Every Godamn company has their software of choice or whatever, EVEN THOUGH the softwares are functionally identical, have the same components, and work the same way overall. Is this not neoliberalism incarnate lol

So you HAVE to say that you’re familiar with this obscure software to get your foot in the door but then you have to talk about it in an interview like your previous org has used it in the past (even though they haven’t).

Does anyone have any life hacks for this particular situation

I wish there was a standardized CV template to know what all the recruiters want, because I genuinely don't know why I get ZERO interviews. ;_; There is nothing I can lie about I could get away with (I also don't like lying, sorry :(((( ).

It’s so sad, but this is probably such a white lie in scope. Imagine what other people say to advance their careers 🥲

lol and it's also causing a lot of dissonance. Why would I, a communist, feel guilt about lying to a potential employer?

Fuck

This. I hate how getting a job is now seen like applying to Harvard. Every single job out there gets so many applicants, and every employer seems to luxuriate in taking their sweet time to tell people "no". It's like the economy advanced without me, and now the bare minimum is getting a master's in a STEM field and miraculously coming up with two products of your own AND becoming an industry celebrity on Linkedin BEFORE you get your first job.

How are there not laws against this arbitrary pickiness? How do people even get jobs at all?

That's the neat part...

For commercial software, I've pirated plenty, or downloaded books/blog posts and just searched them during video interviews. Or had someone listening to the call and searching it for me in another room, while I'm VNC'd in to their computer.

For SaaS bullshit and very obscure stuff, you can always use your current org or setup a real looking one to get trial versions or whatever. I've done that to get access to some data processing tools or database engines that didn't happen have open source/"community" editions.
