#Gwyndolin's spot should be about 50% cool and all the way to the right#she kills one person per century to hold off the apocalypse because every other option available was already tried and wasn’t enough#that is the definition of 100% justified
do you think Dark Sun Gwyndolin, the last God-King of Anor Londo, effectively used girl power by consigning rubes to the flame as a means of prolonging her shadow regime and drawing out the suffering of the world under the dying age of fire? i love her to death but you know she's a metonym for collapsing empire
Huldra [they/them, it/its] - 2.4yr
Giselle Gewelle(Top left) is kind of funny to me cause her whole concept is so like riddled with potential classic horrible transphobic stereotypes, from being part of an all girl group(infiltrator shit) to heavy sadist-sexual just flat out tones or even characterization that could veer right into split personality dumb writing.
But then the actual transphobic part of her portrayal is the author makes other characters be transphobic to her for no reason, literally just like a random gag that isnt even like, on the part of how she acts or is, fucking bizarre way to go about it. None of that shit I mentioned before actually ties into her gender identity like you would expect a shitty manga writer to do.

it's incredibly funny that kubo just kinda mr magoo's his way around all these transphobic pitfalls. the person who's initially transphobic is a character i would describe as a not particularly sensitive caricature of a gay man, which is it's own can of worms, but then you have mayuri and all the members of the all female squad respecting her gender. what a weird way to write a trans character, i love her
also if you go to reddit there are some very confused cis people (as there always are) and it's frustrating (as it always is) to see so many people just unwilling to acknowledge even the possibility that there might be a trans character in a thing they like

Hall of shame for boomer trans movies lol
14
Cromalin [she/her] - 2.4yr
i appreciate beatrice being there because she's an example of like. you can write a villain who has all this shit going on and who is treated with respect by the narrative and is actually good. you didn't have to make it the most transphobic shit of all time!
10
ashinadash [she/her] - 2.4yr
Whomst, sorry I recognise like a third of these lol
5
Cromalin [she/her] - 2.4yr
she's from the visual novel umineko, and is (as mentioned) really good and treated with immense amounts of respect by the narrative. i don't know if she quite qualifies as Good Rep (in that she is still a transgender killer) but she's a great character and is absolutely allowed to kill without remorse. maybe a little less cool than this chart shows, but that's ok
7
Wheaties [she/her] - 2.4yr
I liked To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar despite the title.
oh shit that came out 1995

ashinadash [she/her] - 2.4yr
I have a copy of that, I'd like it if it were good!

Cromalin [she/her] - 2.4yr
ienaga from golden kamuy is right above where grell is. did those people deserve to be killed and eaten for the crime of staying at a hotel she owned? no, but it was 1910 and she needed to get hrt somehow

lorty @lemmygrad.ml - 2.4yr
I never understood if Gwyndolin was actually trans or not. Yeah the clothes are feminine and they were raised as a daughter, but it's never explicitly said what they want for themselves.
Also isn't Whiterose just trying to get her boyfriend back? Doesn't seem very justified to me.
kingseeker frampt will eat just about any item in the game in exchange for souls, including armor pieces. most go for about 100 souls apiece, but he pays 1000 for clothes that ladies wear or that have goddesses involved. this includes gwyndolin’s moonlight set. you know what sucks? relying on gross, predatory dudes for validation of our womanhood.
and let's not they/them a trans woman, ok?

GarbageShoot [he/him] - 2.4yr
and let's not they/them a trans woman, ok?
When the topic is specifically if the person in question identifies as a woman, they/them makes sense (though I agree with you that her being a trans woman is the most reasonable interpretation)
5
Cromalin [she/her] - 2.4yr
true, but i'm not actually mad about that. lorty they/themmed whiterose, who afaik (i haven't seen mr robot) is explicitly a trans woman
5
lorty @lemmygrad.ml - 2.4yr
Yeah the bit about Whiterose was just poor writing by me, I'll fix it.
6
GarbageShoot [he/him] - 2.4yr
Oh, my mistake
5
Cromalin [she/her] - 2.4yr
no, i wasn't clear which bit i was talking about and i totally see how you read it that way when i didn't actually discuss whiterose at all (since they were bringing her up to discuss the morality and i haven't seen the show)
5
AutomatedPossum [she/her] - 2.4yr
Well, i could see people debating Whiterose's transness on the grounds that she presents masc in a lot of the scenes and is never explicitly referred to as trans, but when you take a closer look, in all the scenes that aren't flashbacks to her past, she girlmodes whenever she controls the situation and can get away with it and only boymodes in public appearances in the politics and business sphere where she isn't out, so i'm absolutely going with the closeted transfem explanation over anything else people could come up with to deny her transness.

Lemmygradwontallowme [he/him, it/its] - 2.4yr
Who's that on the top right pFp?
6
Cromalin [she/her] - 2.4yr
the golden witch beatrice, from umineko: when the seagulls cry. she's one of my favorite characters ever, from one of my favorite works of art ever. unlike most characters on this chart, i would go to bat for her being sensitive and well portrayed as a trans woman in ways that avoid basically all the pitfalls the other characters fall into. she's also my avatar
9
Lemmygradwontallowme [he/him, it/its] - 2.4yr
sensitive and well portrayed
Hmm, that's nice. And in the 2000s, I guess she kinda give all of the other characters a run for their money
Idk the rest except that sweet transvestite here, from the Rocky Horror picture show movie. So, she's trans?
5
Cromalin [she/her] - 2.4yr
i mean when a character is described as "a sweet transvestite" and played by a male actor in lots of makeup i would say yes that character is meant to be a trans woman, regardless of what the creators or the film itself says
5
Wheaties [she/her] - 2.4yr
It's not as though sending rubes to the kiln was some active pressure situation. There are more than plenty of opportunities to give up, nobody forces the undead to ring them bells. Do a Big Hat Logan and embrace the curse as the field research opportunity it is.
The only really questionable act is keeping up the farce rather than just being upfront about it (which, character wise, would probably be really difficult if we're gonna read into specializing in illusion magic). So tell me, Hexbear, after countless kindling, is getting monched by Aldrich a just punishment or tragic end?
6
Cromalin [she/her] - 2.4yr
'"is getting monched by Aldrich a just punishment or tragic end?" is a homestuck-ass question to ask' is the only thing i can contribute
4
Wheaties [she/her] - 2.4yr
:desolate: harsh.
I've tried to get into it, several times, 'cus Toby Fox did the music. I never fall asleep while reading. But that one knocks me out every time.
4
Cromalin [she/her] - 2.4yr
not meant to be harsh! i am generally pro homestuck, and "is a death just or tragic" is a major recurring plot beat in homestuck, because certain characters cannot die unless their deaths are deemed sufficiently one or the other
5
Wheaties [she/her] - 2.4yr
No worries! I was mostly riffing on the reputation it has. That's a neat narrative mechanic, I could see it going over well in a tabletop game
5
GarbageShoot [he/him] - 2.4yr
Who is center left? She looks like a second Bleach villain, though I guess the shading style is a little different.
5
Cromalin [she/her] - 2.4yr
center left is grell from black butler! i haven't read or watched black butler but i have read so much discourse about her and how she identifies, because apparently she says "hey i'm a woman, i was amab but i'm a woman" and all the other characters just treat her as a man. which is gross, but hardly the worst bit of transfem rep on this chart

why would gwyndolin continue wearing the gender ring if she wasn't cool with being a girl? i think this is a really good essay on the matter
