Weekly Trans Megathread for the Week of 2/3

want to share something that you don't think deserves it's own thread? wanna chill with your trans homies? wanna support your trans comrades? do it here!

material_delinquent - 2.5yr

no one does a pronoun circle until the trans girl is clocked

30
Cromalin [she/her] - 2.5yr

i was in a group thing and we were all going around saying our names and i went first and didn't give my pronouns, because i'm trying to be relatively stealth, i was wearing a skirt, and i have a very feminine name. literally everyone else gave their pronouns, so when i inevitably get clocked people are going to have to ask or guess, and the mostly cis crew are definitely gonna they me

i guess i should be glad i live in an area where people do that but mostly i'm just anxious

21
material_delinquent - 2.5yr

I experience most of these things as purely performative - like it's pretty easy to tell apart when people who never ask for pronouns ask me for pronouns and when people do it habitually. Obviously I think everybody should ask. I do shame people who ask me in an obnoxious way that makes me feel uncomfortable, like when they say "you can't tell anymore nowadays" before asking

22
Outdoor_Catgirl [she/her, they/them] - 2.5yr

:yea:

15
SnowySkyes - 2.5yr

I haven't really been in a large social space since I started transitioning and this honestly terrifies the fuck out of me. It's a surefire way that I've been clocked and it would make me feel dysphoric. I mean, sure, I'd prefer to be gendered properly, but I wish that it would just happen naturally.

8
material_delinquent - 2.5yr

I think it's important to establish pronouns as parts of personal introduction, especially since I am demi-gender, but I really resent "progressives" making a show about it in a way that shows they are not sincere and just want to show off.

Most groups I am in do it by habit now, thankfully, but once I was meeting a group with my partner and a familiar person from the other group went "we should do a pronoun circle" in the middle of the street while we were both presenting very femme and that person never usually does that. Something similar happened a bunch of times.

9
SnowySkyes - 2.5yr

If it happens like right at the start, perfect, but I remember it happening a bit before I even cracked my egg and it would just come out of nowhere mid conversation most, if not all, of the time. That’s when it terrifies me.

6
material_delinquent - 2.5yr

Yeah, totally agree

4
WithoutFurtherBelay - 2.5yr

It sucks to be misgendered but… 1. I’d rather do a pronoun circle than misgender someone on accident and 2. Non-binary people exist so idk what solution even would exist that could account for both asides from making pronoun pins mandatory at all social meetings of any kind.

Edit: If I end up “clocking” someone I have no idea if they’re non binary or not so my only choice is asking their pronouns and probably making them feel terrible or not asking them their pronouns… and probably making them feel terrible

7
Cromalin [she/her] - 2.5yr

man i love estrogen. i love feeling comfortable in my skin most of the time, and i love crying at emotionally affecting scenes in the art i like

(i was rereading the chimera ant arc, because someone on here said it was bad and i wanted to refresh my memory. pleased to report it's still good (politics aside) and the ending makes me cry like a baby. the pacing is good, the audience is mid)

27
FumpyAer [any, comrade/them] - 2.5yr

i love crying at emotionally affecting scenes in the art i like

sicko-wistful

19
WithoutFurtherBelay - 2.5yr

pleased to report it's still good (politics aside)

Mereum is less than a year old, probably has the political knowledge of a 15 year old when adjusting for his growth rate. I would assume he would grow out of his weird semi-fascist human inferiority phase the moment he discovered Marx.

Does HxH have Marx? Might explain how fucked up the world is.

7
Cromalin [she/her] - 2.5yr

meruem is i think at most 2 months old if my math is right. he could have gotten better for sure, he was already on his way there

and my comment on the politics was regarding the bad north korea stuff, though that really just feels like togashi having an idea for what the chimera ants should do and working towards that more than any actual commentary

6
WithoutFurtherBelay - 2.5yr

I was going to say that NGO doesn’t seem like North Korea but then I remember the separate weird North Korea strawman thing. Very weird inclusion. Goddamit Togashi

6
Cromalin [she/her] - 2.5yr

yeah the second place the chimera ants infiltrate is very blatantly north korea

6
WithoutFurtherBelay - 2.5yr

I May have mixed up Neo Green something with NGO’s… I need sleep

6
Cromalin [she/her] - 2.5yr

it's the ngl. you should get some sleep!

also i looked it up and the leader of east gorteau is named ming jol-ik and was a revolutionary who overthrew the government before taking power himself

Best thing on the planet. Never would trade it for anything.

>finally get to point where im comfortable enough to girlmode
>job market is fucked so cant switch jobs

honestly i feel like im never gonna find another job bcus i feel like im visibly autistic and i got stuck in this shitty job that's kinda low code and the only actual programming i do is sql. i had 1(one) interview recently where they were super enthusiastic and then ghosted after.. idk if its bcus i came off too awkward or i said something wrong or its bcus i havent finished my degree yet?? fucking sucks https://lemmygrad.ml/pictrs/image/65b5c037-0624-40d1-9b12-4b26a1e22f2e.jpeg

Many such cases sadness

15
star_wraith [he/him] - 2.5yr

(not trans, so I’ll delete if I’m overstepping here)

I have been in many job interviews, on both sides of the table. I have found zero correlation to interviewer enthusiasm or vibes from them, and whether I get an offer. I’ve had interviews that I thought went terribly that later made me an offer. I’ve had other interviews where they act like they’re the lucky ones that I’m considering working for them, but I hear nothing after.

As an interviewer, there’s been lots of times I’ve been enthusiastic about someone as much as I try to have a poker face, and I want to make them an offer but my boss or someone higher up looks at the resume and squashes the whole thing over something kinda petty. Or the funding dries up shortly after and we can’t hire anyone. Or we get really busy and hiring someone is the last thing on my mind for weeks just because I’m trying to hold everything else with my job together.

Hope that helps.

14
die_livster @lemmygrad.ml - 2.5yr

Hope that helps.

it does thanks :) it's so difficult though never knowing what i have to change

14
Gaia [She/Her] - 2.5yr

Yeahhhh I stopped getting callbacks after I started presenting

Had an interviewer make me read Bible verses then only say "I don't know if you'll get along with the executives" with no added explanation

I hope my degree will help

26
MechanizedPossum [she/her] - 2.5yr

my gal pal just came across some synthesizer-related issue that's so weird i can't even name it without potentially doxxing myself, and the first thing she thought of was asking me about it, and not only could i explain to her what was going on there, but had actually looked into that particular eurorack module doing all that weird shit in the past.

i don't think i've ever felt so understood than when i'm with her, she's such a treasure and it's so much fun being weird and gay with her. t4t will save your soul.

25
SnowySkyes - 2.5yr

I'm sick and tired of HRT not giving me hips or an ass, so I'm taking matters into my own hands. I've been doing some lightish exercises with resistance bands to see how much it does and holy hell I started to see some results after a few days. Like noticeable to other people amounts of results. So now I"m super motivated and am going to go hard on this like I did my weight loss almost a decade ago. I'm going to have sick af hips and ass by year's end so long as my necessary 3 month break doesn't cause backsliding.

tactical_trans_karen [she/her, comrade/them] - 2.5yr

22

I had a guy tell me he misgenders ppl because "it's funny" and he's "an asshole" and I told an older black trans woman about it and she said she'd drop voice and beat his ass so that made me feel a lot better honestly

21
SnowySkyes - 2.5yr

I'd beat his ass into the ground. Or pepper spray him into submission. Because it's funny. Don't fuck with trans folks and I won't fuck with you.

11
Gaia [She/Her] - 2.5yr

If there weren't cameras....

::: spoiler Questioning, some descriptions of body image issues/dysphoria(?) I've been thinking about gender issues for a while and I don't know what to do about it. It's something I think about a lot and there's a lot of other things tied into it which are hard to untangle.

I starting having these kinds of feelings about 3 years ago. I was hanging out in generally left-wing/LGBT-friendly online spaces before that, so I knew what trans people were, but I only really started having these feelings myself when COVID hit. I've always been relatively physically androgynous/feminine for an AMAB person, but even so I've been wishing that I was more feminine. I don't feel a huge incongruity with the way my body is, and sometimes when I look/dress particularly androgynous I actually kind of like the way I look. That being said, I've still been noticing that I have more facial/body hair compared to a few years ago (along with other subtle things I can't quite name) and I really do not like that, and I'm really worried about further changes like that. I feel like it's going to be hard to achieve/maintain the level of femininity I want without medically transitioning, but I'm not entirely comfortable with being physically a woman either.

In general, I act pretty much like the stereotypical "socially-awkward male nerd", and while that isn't a particularly "masculine" social role, I also sometimes wish to be perceived as more feminine in this regard. When I'm with people I'm close with, I generally act cool and sometimes sarcastic. I tease people a lot (in a friendly way, though I wasn't always good at controlling that) and I'm good at verbally sparring when they make fun of me back. But sometimes I want to act cutesy or be more openly affectionate, and I can't because I feel too vulnerable doing so. This makes me feel like I'm too cold and too closed off if I want to be feminine, (though IDK if it's great to think that because it's kind of buying into gender roles).

The only person that I really trust that I've spoken to recently is an online friend who's a cishet guy (well, we've met in person but we live far enough apart that it's not super convenient), and he's supportive but it's not really something he knows how to help with. I've also talked about this with another online friend who is queer, but I haven't spoken to them a while (we drifted apart a bit due to circumstances in their life). I haven't told anyone IRL and it takes a long time for me to really trust people, so I basically don't have anyone to support me IRL. I don't think my parents are outright hateful, but I don't think they really understand LGBT stuff either, so I really want to be sure before I tell them anything. I'm also looking to work as a programmer, and I'm uneasy with presenting as not-male in my work life.

I've read through a bunch of the commonly linked trans resources but I still haven't really done anything about it. I live in one of the less awful states; there are informed consent clinics near me and I have enough money for that, so I feel like I'm fortunate compared to a lot of trans people. I've had some idle dreams about buying some feminine clothes, but I'm too lazy? scared? to even try that. I'm not sure if I'm that uncomfortable with my body or if I really want to be a woman that badly compared to the stories I've read. I'm worried that it's not a real feeling because I can't really recall any signs more than 3 years back. I'm unhappy in my life but there are a lot of reasons for that aside from (possibly) being trans. One part of me is scared of waiting too long to start transitioning, but another part of me is scared of having to learn to live as a trans person (or even just as not-male) in an increasingly fascist United States. I feel like I have to make a decision relatively soon, and it's just completely paralyzing.

There's a lot of other things I want to say but I'm not sure if this is coherent as is so IDK.

19
Ceres [she/her] - 2.5yr

also seconding what Ideology said, and adding that your description is super similar to me, so feel free to send any questions if that helps. Regarding the paralysis for me I eventually decided to trust in my instincts instead of trying to rationalize everything, but that had to do with how strong my conscious-level self repression was. Letting my emotional instincts open up then let me start recognizing bits of euphoria and dysphoria and start addressing those individually without worrying if they aligned with any kind of social gender i had in mind, which works well for me. Also nice account name, nightshades are my favorite group of plants.

10
Pluto [he/him, he/him] - 2.5yr

Pure Ideology!

Also, hey, Ceres, fancy seeing you here!

9
Cromalin [she/her] - 2.5yr

seconding basically everything ideology said

i can't say whether you're trans or not, only you can do that. but i know that i spent years more or less looking for permission to let myself be trans and to let myself transition. once i freed myself of that, and made the decision on my own, i entered the best years of my life. your words are almost identical to the things i said to myself, to the things i've seen other trans people say to themselves, to the point where if you edited the tenses i would just be like "yeah. this is a trans woman reminiscing on how she was before coming out, basically in line with every other one of these."

if you want you can be a woman, or woman adjacent, or something else entirely that still isn't a man. you can just do that

10
grym - 2.5yr

don't have anything to add from what others have said, or any crumb of wisdom to pull from my life to help yours.

But all you've said here resonates so much with me, it's like an echo. I've been thinking about it a bit longer, and I've (finally, slowly) managed to make decisions about it. Hopefully you can too!

15
Pisha [she/her, they/them] - 2.5yr

I made a new social media account and I'm somewhat overwhelmed by the need to present myself online. Like, how do you even get an avatar picture that says something about you (and isn't just an image from some anime)? And what's the point of a "banner" picture? I'm half-tempted to just reveal aspects of my real life identity, but years of having been online have imprinted on me that you should absolutely never do that. Honestly, I'm wondering if I'm just not creative and personable enough to use social media as something more than a content delivery machine on which I lurk.

18
ashinadash [she/her] - 2.5yr

So I had a cis person ask if transfemme periods are considered to be a side effect of HRT. While I think this is incredibly stupid and weird and offensive coming from a cis person... I'm actually kind of interested philosophically, I guess.

I want the opinions of the Smart Fuckers in this thread. I don't expect that cramps and moodswings are a desired objective of hormone replacement, but I also know that a great many of us feel validated by the presence of them. Idk how to respond to such a question fully.

17
kristina [she/her] - 2.5yr

Were they asking if they're real? Cause like yeah it's real, just no bleeding

16
ashinadash [she/her] - 2.5yr

The amount of skub I'm seeing on this is kind of disappointing, seriously more education is needed

But sort of, the direct wording was "Wouldn't that be more akin to side effects of HRT, rather than a period?" Really bizarre and terrible, I instantly regret bringing this up

14
silent_water [she/her] - 2.5yr

idk, what else do you call abdominal cramps and mood swings each month? is it an effect of HRT? yes. but if you think cis femme periods aren't also hormonal and are somehow magically different, you're just a trabsphobe.

13
ashinadash [she/her] - 2.5yr

Woah are you saying my weird cis person asking stupid questions could be a TRANSPHOBE???? Inconceivable.

9
kristina [she/her] - 2.5yr

Nah it's def a period. It being side effects is a little weird, like saying it's a side effect of being a woman? It's normal operation

6
Cromalin [she/her] - 2.5yr

yeah this is an interesting philosophical question. it's all a matter of perspective really, if you are informed of the effects and consider it part and parcel of transition than i don't think it's a side effect. but like, if you think "no i should just be able to take the hormones and make my body more like i wish it to be without having a period" than i think it's a side effect

basically i agree with @lilypad@hexbear.net

12
ashinadash [she/her] - 2.5yr

It's a neat lil conundrum! I countered by asking the cis woman if her periods are a side effect of being cis screm-cool

14
lilypad [she/her, it/its] - 2.5yr

Good thing someone developed a new type of woman that has fewer side effects. Many doctors still perscribe the old type of woman, but some will perscribe the new type if you ask nicely. cat-vibing

16
ashinadash [she/her] - 2.5yr

Me omw to be prescribed Woman for my recently diagnosed case of Unbearable Lesbianism bridget-yoyo-walk

7
lilypad [she/her, it/its] - 2.5yr

Im not a Smart Fucker™ but to me this is all in the purpose of HRT; one takes a medication for its effect(s). Effects besides the main or intended effect(s) are therefore side effects. So to me it depends on the philisophical view of HRT that the specific trans woman or transfemme person has. E.g. I view HRT as giving my body what it needs in a holistic manner. To me, the period symptoms are a part of that. A frustrating part to be sure (i just had a couple days of possible hypomania followed by some days of intense mood swings, and idk if its a mental health thing or not because it landed at the perfect point in my cycle), but a part nonetheless. But for someone who views it differently, they may very well see the period symptoms as side effects because they are undesireable and not their intent for the medication.

Hopefully one of those Smart Fuckers will chime in, Im curious what others think about this.

10
ashinadash [she/her] - 2.5yr

I think this is a Smart Fucker answer, I hadn't even really thought about personal subjectivity in terms of what qualifies a side effect quite this way(autism). Thank you!! transshork-happy

I got misgendered at work by a colleague yesterday, I was having a sulk about it and they came back to ask my pronouns which was nice. Shaved for the first time in a week when I got home, it's nice to feel human again.

Also been playing Dragon Quest Builders, it's been good for my heart, and i've got the sequal coming in the mail, pretty excited to vanish from life for a while

16
Tommasi [she/her, pup/pup's] - 2.5yr

heeelp, im visiting my parents who i'm not out too, so I had to do a stealth estrogen injection in my room and was really worried about someone walking in. since I was stressed out i fucked up and misread the syringe and injected 0.08 ml instead of 0.18 ml.

I only brought supplies for the one injection so i can't take the rest until tomorrow evening at the earliest, and I have blood test scheduled the day before my next injection and now it feels like no matter what I do it won't be accurate, wtf do i do??

15
NailBunny [she/her] - 2.5yr

The best course of action is just to tell your doctor you made a mistake with your last injection and how much you injected. The solution might be as simple as moving your test back a week, but its essential they have an accurate picture of what's going on anyways

14
Tommasi [she/her, pup/pup's] - 2.5yr

okayt thanks, i'll just be honest with my doctor. also i made a huge typo in my post and wrote 0.8 instead of 0.08, i didn't fuck up THAT bad

I now have an appointment with an Endocrinologist, which is nice. I bought some cute clothes with my cousin as well.

I also met some local transpeople at an lgbt+ meet, but one (of the two present) told me we should deport refugees so that the right does not gain more influence and because the country is full. So, I think I'll have to keep looking for locals to hang out with.

15
hissing_serpents [she/her, it/its] - 2.5yr

pretty minor problem in the scheme of things but i'm taking a trans studies class in my university taught by who i'm 95% sure is just A Cis Guy and it is bothering me to no end.

going to class every week to learn why postmodern academics think Transsexualism™ is problematic and Reinforcing The Binary while i'm finally coming to terms with myself for actually wanting bottom surgery and realizing that it's gotten a lot less accessible for me during the few years i spent waffling

15
Jenniferrr [she/her, comrade/them] - 2.4yr

My T is under the threshold to where my insurance is gonna cover my laser!!!!

13
Cromalin [she/her] - 2.4yr

you need to make absolutely certain they cover it ahead of time. my insurance promised (in writing!) to reimburse me for it and now they're trying to fuck me out of 1000 dollars

E: NEVER MIND THEY FINALLY ACCEPTED THE CLAIM

it takes time and they lost the first round of paperwork and i had to prompt them a few times to make sure the wheels were turning. huge pain, but at least i get my money back

11
Jenniferrr [she/her, comrade/them] - 2.4yr

Wow that really sucks. Yeah I'll be extra careful. Good thing is that my insurance has a good reputation of actually covering things, I just have to follow their process which takes longer than some others. For example, I've heard many people getting FFS completely covered beyond the deductible, which is pretty amazing

8
Jenniferrr [she/her, comrade/them] - 2.4yr

OMG!!!! Congratulations!!!!

7
Are_Euclidding_Me [e/em/eir] - 2.5yr

This is a depressing post. Please don't read on if that's going to make you feel bad.

I'm spiraling a bit today because that shitty, shitty opinion piece by Pamela Paul in the New York Times from like two days ago was somehow convincing to my mother. She's your standard lib, except she's pretty trans-positive, given that my sister and I are both trans and have worked hard in the 4 or so years since we came out to her to get her to understand trans issues. She's read Whipping Girl, she's read Beyond Pink and Blue, I've even gone over various articles she's found in the past and pointed out the transphobia in them and she seemed to see it once I pointed it out.

And yet. Yesterday she tells me that Pamela Paul's recent opinion piece might have some good stuff in it and since I hadn't read it yet, I assumed it must be better than Paul's usual absolute garbage. So I read it today, in order to give her a critique and point out the transphobia she'd missed, assuming I was in for a relatively bad time, but maybe not so terrible since Mom thought there was something worthwhile.

It's just as awful as you'd think. It's standard transphobic tripe. I feel really hopeless, because if my mother, who is relatively educated about trans issues, doesn't see through this shit, what hope can I have for any other lib? Apparently as long as you don't literally say "kill trans people", libs will read the rankest of transphobia and be like, huh, I guess that makes sense.

material_delinquent - 2.5yr

This is why I am cynical about self-ided allies. You know the "i don't hate autistic people, I just hate people who [goes on to describe every single thing autistic people do]" meme? I have not read the article, but I think it gets people who are like this about trans people, lol.

6
Cromalin [she/her] - 2.5yr

got to alluka in the hunter x hunter reread. it's great that one of the most popular shonen manga/anime out there has a whole arc about one of the main characters loving his transgender sister and learning to accept her headmate as his sister as well

it's wild that people go "hmmm. so is she a boy or a girl? she says she's a girl, and so does the only person who loves her. but the rest of her family (who are all incredibly abusive and torture people for fun) says she's a boy, and make a really specific point of doing so. this is a conundrum that i just don't know how to solve!"

12
Babs [she/her] - 2.5yr

New job, new insurance, gotta find a new doctor and hope they're cool with my self-medding. My last doc was cool - I just told him my dosages and he was like "yeah that sounds about right, lemme get your insurance to pay for it."

But he's out of network now, and I gotta look again and make sure my new doc doesn't ask me to go off meds for a "baseline".

Also bout to bite the bullet and learn to crypto to refill my stockpile.

Yeah I think she is a little weirded out but it could just be my own projection. Family is weird cause she's known me my entire life, she's older than I am, and knows me a certain way for sure. I would expect her to be a little weirded out honestly but she is supportive

8
Cromalin [she/her] - 2.4yr

i'm thankful that most of my family took it well. none of them really get it but they're trying. and the ones that aren't are the ones i already hated (my brother, mostly)

sounds like she's about where most of my relatives are

Yeah :) she I expect will be one the best ones which is why I told her. A lot ofnmy family I think will be not good. Especially my parents.

Am in a Discord Server for local trans ppl, and they are complaining about "Tankies" (they mean the local Trots). Gave some pushback, but was nice about it. One person said that she is a "liberal democratic socalist". Didn't know that this discourse existed IRL.

10
DerEwigeAtheist [she/her, comrade/them] - 2.5yr

Update: Was accused of "relativising hundresd of million dead" after saying one should have a nuanced view of the USSR.

Didn't get better after that, should have disengaged at that point. Now I don't know if I actually am welcome on that server anymore.

10
jaeme - 2.5yr

I'm sorry that you had to find out that u were in a NATO discord guild. Liberalism + trans people is not something I ever want to experience again.

7
DerEwigeAtheist [she/her, comrade/them] - 2.4yr

Eh, the person who wrote the "gorillion dead" thing is actually active in the local "left autonomous" scene. It's the take of someone who does praxis, which is why I was extra shocked to hear those takes from someone who calls themselves a comrade.

The western left is deeply troubled.

It hurts when its the people you most respect, which is why I try to be as obvious with my own views from the get go so they filter out or actually strike up a constructive convo with me.

Des [she/her, they/them] - 2.5yr

i hate that i find F1NN5TER and ashley's relationship so fucking adorable

it's like reality TV levels of "omg".. i suppose it's somewhat their choice to be public about it.

good or bad thing overall? like both in general and for trans awareness/gender identity stuff?

also what's up with femboys and transwomen/transfemmes? i consider myself pretty megalesbian but my one exception is femboys. i was actually happy to be kind of bi when i realized this

10
Cromalin [she/her] - 2.5yr

i think f1nn5ter doing trap jokes irl and going "AHA, YOU THOUGHT IT WAS A GIRL BUT IT WAS ACTUALLY ME, A MAN!" is not great. i mean, i don't watch his stuff and i assume that isn't all of what he does, but it is at least how he chooses to advertise a lot of his videos*, and it's like. the fundamental premise of his content. i absolutely respect his right to do whatever he wants with his presentation, but i feel like if he were to actually say "ok i'm a woman, she/her, etc" he would lose most of his following. maybe i'm wrong and i'm just bitter, idk ::: spoiler *these suck :::

13
Gaia [She/Her] - 2.5yr

Hey sister, I see you around Lemmy from time to time

I think it's perfectly fine to find this kind of content unacceptable. I shouldn't have customers asking if I'm "packing".

Content like this is so derogatory, and essentially more of the 'haha gay funni"

There are good femboys, and I'm dating one. F1nn5ter is doing this intentionally, and absolutely knows the harm he's causing for his own personal gain.

12
Cromalin [she/her] - 2.5yr

the 'maybe i'm wrong and i'm just bitter' was specifically about me saying he'd probably lose most of his fans if he was actually trans, i am resolute in finding videos titled "100 people guess if i'm a girl" gross

but thank you for backing me up, it does mean a lot

11
Gaia [She/Her] - 2.5yr

Oh, sorry lol

I guess my nihilistic side agrees with you on that 😭

Thanks for being around, tbh

You def improve the comments section

5
Cromalin [she/her] - 2.5yr

ty! i try, lmao

4
Des [she/her, they/them] - 2.5yr

yeah i get the feeling his mods/editors keep pushing this stuff and he just rolls with it plus literal chasers/fetishes just lavishing him with money

the actual content has nothing to do with the thumbnails/descriptions it's mostly just slice of life stuff

edit, left some stuff out: the good to come of this is seeing a transwoman just be in a normal but also queer relationship with a gender nonconforming guy. which is something at least. so launching ashley's social media career as a trans educator is also pretty positive. her videos are great for baby trans she has a really good casual way of presenting stuff

6
Cromalin [she/her] - 2.5yr

i think that's fair but like, i reserve the right to hate him for seeking out and encouraging that audience

2
Des [she/her, they/them] - 2.5yr

totally cool. i recognize my feelings are purely parasocial

3
Gaia [She/Her] - 2.5yr

Idk

I think it's fine to enjoy him, but I think his portrayal is distasteful. I shouldn't be served you saying you "decided not to get the surgery," as your most popular clip, when that's something I can only dream of right now. It also feels like he sexualizes himself constantly, which really doesn't help with people perceiving gender non-conforming males as sexual. I would like to not be harassed on the daily because of other people's fetish.

My bf is a femboy, but much more respectful, and doesn't appropriate my identity. I don't think it's fair for them(my bf) to speak on my struggles, but they do face their own issues in regards to their presentation, or with people using the right pronouns.

Idk

I'm not trying to exclude femboys from freedom from gender, I just want them to be more thoughtful about how their jokes will affect others.

11
Des [she/her, they/them] - 2.5yr

i think we're in an early phase of cultural acceptance of femboys and i'm not even sure most femboys entirely know if this is a post-gender thing or just public acceptance of genderqueer/nonconforming through the lens of (unfortunate) sexual thirst

when i was younger and when trans basically meant you had to medically transition fully and couldn't be bi or a lesbian (and thus the gate was closed to me) i would have considered myself a femboy

even though in reality i was pretty openly nonbinary there just wasn't yet a definition for it

so maybe things will keep evolving.

your bf isn't a social media star/person (i'm assuming?) so you get a good lens into what a femboy is without the spotlight and monetary motivations

sorry i'm rambling dunno if this makes sense

3
Gaia [She/Her] - 2.5yr

I mean, yeah, sorta.
We're doing content with each other and stuff tho so idk. We do monetize our sexualities.

I think F1nn5ter's privilege is kinda important here though, because he doesn't have to deal with the dangerous consequences essentially at all, unlike my bf who was raped because of his presentation and the sexualization of it. This was at Pride.

4
Des [she/her, they/them] - 2.5yr

shit i'm really sorry. i understand.

SA survivor myself that happened at a safe space too it really sucks

4
Gaia [She/Her] - 2.5yr

I'm sorry for bringing up the topic without prior warning. I'm a survivor as well but sometimes it's hard to internalize it so I end up just blurting things out.

I hope your recovery is and has been steadfast and persistent. My partner recovered so much from the incident, but the difficulty they had with it was always evident, and virtually insurmountable at times. I pray that you'll have the strength to approach it when you're ready, if you haven't already, and I pray that peace has or will be restored to you. Sorry if this isn't appropriate.

3
Des [she/her, they/them] - 2.5yr

it's ok! was a long time ago and i've worked it out

lasting impact is it just snuffed out what ever attraction i had to men which is only returned with femboys/femme presenting men

was briefly actually homophobic (legit scared of gay men) until a good friend i had a romantic but not sexual relationship smoothed that out

3
Gaia [She/Her] - 2.5yr

I'm glad you're doing well considering!

I was homophobic as a kid for reasons I don't know but suspect and was shocked out of it when I was told my grandpa was gay lmao 🤣

He was the sweetest old man and I knew he couldn't be bad too

4
WithoutFurtherBelay - 2.5yr

also what's up with femboys and transwomen/transfemmes? i consider myself pretty megalesbian but my one exception is femboys. i was actually happy to be kind of bi when i realized this

It fucks with me because I’ve never seen a femboy in person and just assume they aren’t real (edit: subconsciously, like obviously they are), so it’s like I’m bi but only for a group of people I’ve never met before

7
Des [she/her, they/them] - 2.5yr

there's a catboy that walks up and down my road. ears, makeup, everything.

first one i've seen in the wild. rural area too

wonder if he's a stray.

(implied pronouns never talked to this person so hopefully not misgendering)

5
Gaia [She/Her] - 2.5yr

He might be a stray

Not joking when I say if you befriend and headpat him you might have a new pet

My bf was already into me but once I leaned into my mommy side and being comforting they melted like butter and asked if I would own them lol

6
Des [she/her, they/them] - 2.5yr

i want to talk to him but it would be so creepy of me lol

especially since i'm an elder millennial and he's probably like early 20s

once i stop boymoding so hard maybe i'll seem safer

5
Gaia [She/Her] - 2.5yr

I mean, if you chill on the porch and be friendly and say hi and stuff, then maybe have a couple of obvious gay calling cards on you, he's pretty likely to be at least a little curious haha

I'm mid 20s and my partner is early 20s, and we're both very open to people your age, especially if we can tell through conversation that you legitimately understand us on some level, and not just from an "I've researched it" perspective. Just a friendly smile with no creepy wryness and a light clock on my gaydar pretty much opens both of us up entirely, innuendo intended.

Plus I think most of us have Daddy and Mommy issues, so being older can actually be a plus, even if you're boymoding

3
Des [she/her, they/them] - 2.5yr

this is waaay more my partner's specialty. they basically have a big gay gender nonconforming placard instead of a card

they also basically did this professionally as a school bus driver for 10 years but in the innuendo-free way obviously. became the queer aunt (partner is they/she have no idea what non gendered version of that is) to like 30 gen z

little did the conservatives know the "grooming" was not in the classroom the whole time. also why they eventually quit once they were forced to stop talking about LGBT stuff and had to misgender students

1
Gaia [She/Her] - 2.5yr

Gotchaaa

Weird how despite the grooming by queers I felt pressured by my religious community to marry and have children but what do I know about grooming lol i only had to deal with it directly

Tell your partner I said thank you for making the world a better place

2

3
Gaia [She/Her] - 2.5yr

They're very real, lol

My bf is a foxboi with a super sexy extra smooth chest and tummy

2
WithoutFurtherBelay - 2.5yr

But you’re not supposed to keep foxes as pets…

1
Gaia [She/Her] - 2.5yr

Sure they bite and are a little feral, but wrestling matches and bite marks all over your body can't be too bad, right? 😜

They're free-range and they have all their vaccines, so you don't have to worry about their well-being. ☺️

Plus if a cute lil fox self-domesticates, who am I to say no?

3
WithoutFurtherBelay - 2.5yr

I suppose if it’s already domesticated than leaving it outside would be cruelty

asking for t4t advice

::: spoiler cw sexual content My GF and I have been together for a bit now but it’s been pretty hard to do anything when we’re together. We can hang out and play games or just talk, and that’s fun, but actually doing, y’know, the thing, is really hard.

I think part of it is that, while I mentally internalize my GF as the girl she is, and it’s really easy to get into things in my imagination of her or while not in person, I think seeing her in person just freaks me out because I worry that she isn’t quite femme enough in her current presentation for me to be fully attracted to her, which really fucks with my head. It’s extremely hard because I want to be freaky with her and usually are but whenever we’re in person I just freeze.

I’m worried I have some sort of internalized transphobia or some subconscious misgendering of my GF which is stopping me from being fully into her.

Is there any way I can help myself get into the proper mindset? Should I have sex while high or something? Maybe meditate on her appearance and like, recontextualize her appearance?

I really need an elder queer’s help here, I feel stuck but also like this is something lots of people would deal with in t4t relationships. :::

8
Cromalin [she/her] - 2.5yr

::: spoiler spoiler that does sound like some internalized stuff. my recommendation (though i'm not an expert!) is that this is something you should talk about with her if you haven't.

if you've talked about it, try to just ease into it. try just cuddling and kissing, maybe making out a little. you don't need to rush into this if you have hangups about sex. just take it easy, take it slow, try and find a rhythm you can be comfortable with :::

9
WithoutFurtherBelay - 2.5yr

::: spoiler spoiler Where could I look with what kind of internalized stuff it could be? I just… honestly there’s a lot of body hair on her and I don’t know if it’s just me being a little shit about it or what. Like I feel like I should be able to just accept that. Plenty of women have body hair. But, like, that’s the thing, I don’t think the issue is that I don’t see her as a woman, it’s more that I’m just like… having a hard time getting into her. Also I’m a furry, I should be able to do this! :::
