sorry, but that's not really what i go to youtube or podcasts for. i have some youtube videos about portrayals of gender within anime and trans identity, but not really anything about real people or real history
HOWEVER, i got a good book for christmas that i've been reading lately about this very subject. it's called "before we were trans" by kit heyam, and it goes into historical gender identity from around the world. not all about this exact thing, it's got stuff on cultural third genders in precolonial west africa, on tokugawa japan, on crossdressing laws and cases in 16th century england. very interesting stuff, and drawing from a wider net than just 'people who we know for sure wanted to become the opposite gender' which is nice (if you read the post i shared about kurt cobain a few months ago it's kind of similar to that)
i know you weren't asking for a book, but i hope it helps! it's definitely closer to what you want than any youtube videos i would be able to recommend

I'm not saying Elagabalus (Elagabala?) wasn't trans, I'm just saying I wouldn't rush to claim them if you accept the narratives that paint them as possible trans are accurate. Because the same narratives that Elagabalus was trans are also the narratives that make them out to be a rampant murderer, serial sexual assaulter, total unrepentant psychopath and also less awful things like a prostitute and a polygamist in the sense of having both husbands and wives which we now would see as less bad but they would absolutely see as scandalous and horrifying at the time.

In Plato's Symposium, Aristophanes shares a mythical story about the creation of humans as we know them, which includes gender transitions.
Essentially, what he's doing when he's sharing this story is to take the piss out of the other people that he's in dialogue with. (I'm not explaining it very well but if you know the bit I'm talking about then you know.)
Is it a bit of a stretch to say that the first recorded trans joke in all of human history didn't make trans people into the punch line? Maybe, but I've come across much more egregious retcons than that...
(Heck, maybe I do support a retvrn to tradition after all?)
