If only she was hoarding RAM and not TP.

I wonder if she can be trained....

Good time had

Told ya. :)

eee bestie:

Currawong rocked up and there was a bit of a dispute. Maggie won.

11
Rusty Raven - 7day

I just had a ham and salad sandwich for lunch. Salad just hits differently at the start of summer than the end. Give it a few months and I'll be ready to stop the endless salads and go back to soups and stews for winter, but at the moment I'm all about the salad.

9
Seagoon_ - 7day

i just wish I didn't get so knocked about by the vaccinations , 12 days and I'm still tired

4
Rusty Raven - 7day

I found the Covid ones made me horribly sick for 2-3 days then tired for a couple of weeks. Actual Covid was much milder but lasted about twice as long.

4
Seagoon_ - 7day

It's not great.

I'm really hating this timeline.

2
imoldgreeeg - 1w

I'm doing it. I am going to IKEA. See ya on the other side

9
imoldgreeeg - 7day

Hahaha yaaas. Exactly

3
anotherspringchicken - 7day

Can you pick me up 6 things I didnโ€™t know I needed, please?

4
imoldgreeeg - 7day

You can pick from the multitude of things I bought not knowing I needed..strangely none of them are the one thing inwent there for...

3

Good luck. Can you grab me a meatball?

StudSpud The Starchy - 7day

Mentally exhausted with a black veil of hopelessness resting on my heart.

::: spoiler depression That clanker didn't call yesterday, so I'm relieved I don't have to talk to it.

I'm not expecting everything I want to be handed to me, nor did I expect it to be easy. But it does still hurt, and has me feeling so low as to question whether I've made a mistake pursuing this at all. Maybe I'm too old now and I should have just stuck it out in CC. Maybe that's all anyone will give me a chance to do, and maybe I should just be happy with that.

Just because I want something, doesn't mean I'll get it, I suppose. :::

9
LowExperience2368 - 7day

It feels shitty but you're doing more than inaction.

When are you done with your diploma?

7
StudSpud The Starchy - 7day

I've got my cert III already. To do cert IV in vet nursing I need a placement in animal industry first, hence why I took the cattery rejection so hard lol

7
LowExperience2368 - 7day

I see :( is this something TAFE can help you with?

4
StudSpud The Starchy - 7day

Not from what I saw. Other industries yes, but vet nursing they want us to source the placement ourselves. Even their grad careers page had nothing in animal industry. Totally wild considering the resources they had for the actual classes I took

4
LowExperience2368 - 7day

Yeah I saw their grad jobs board and it looks like the ones unis use. That sucks that they make you source the placement.

I did a bit of research into the course and it looks like they want you to work as a vet nurse before you actually start the course. At least this one did unless I read it wrong.

Cold call a bunch of vets?

4
StudSpud The Starchy - 7day

That's the next step, I think, that's a good point ๐Ÿ’œ

Shame the vast majority of vet nurse jobs posted want me to have the cert IV already lol riddle me that Batman chicken and egg shite ๐Ÿ˜‚

6
LowExperience2368 - 7day

Exactly! I thought the course was supposed to teach you how to be a vet nurse ๐Ÿ™ˆ

Just remember it will get better in time and eventually you will feel less shit, even if your mind is being a biatch, but you know that already <3

6
Eagle - 7day

Forgive my butting in on the matter.... but one of the vet clinics I use has over the past couple of years upskilled their 'reception' staff with vet nurse training. I know its not the job you want, but it could be a start given your previous experience.

4
melbaboutown - 7day

Is this something you can circumvent by volunteering at the Lort Smith? Though I donโ€™t suppose youโ€™re allowed to volunteer for nursingโ€ฆ or with qualifications, are you? I donโ€™t know. Iโ€™m not qualified to know how any of this works.

Just looking for loopholes.

How the hell do they expect people to get enough experience to be hired if nobody will hire you for lack of experience?

3
StudSpud The Starchy - 7day

They didn't contact me back last time lol but I'll try again when they post openings/requests for volunteers

3
Seagoon_ - 7day

nooo

you are doing the right thing , even in tough times education and pursuing a career is the best way to improve your life, it also means you are making the decisions as far as you can, not just letting other people determine your whole life

6
StudSpud The Starchy - 7day

Thank you! I am exercising my autonomy and self-determination, I just feel really terrible.

I appreciate your support and kindness, truly ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’œ

6
Seagoon_ - 7day

so many hugs

we can only do what we can, we didn't make this world we were born into

6
Force_majeure1234 - 7day

Your only option is to keep at it, so do that.

6
melbaboutown - 7day

Iโ€™m sorry Spud. Iโ€™m hoping an opportunity comes. If youโ€™re going through hell keep going.

5
SituationCake - 6day

Im so sorry. Itโ€™s hard to miss out when youโ€™ve put so much work in. But you shouldnโ€™t despair yet. I know people who graduated from all sorts of things where it took time to get a foot in the door. But they eventually did, and it worked out for them. If you are still keen to pursue it, then keep going. This may be irrelevant, but are you able to travel out of town for work? I knew a person in a similar field who got a placement in a rural area, far less competitive. Commute might be tough for a while but might give you a start? I hope you can be kind to yourself, get some rest over the next few days.

2
LowExperience2368 - 7day

If you need a light-hearted movie with a bunch of animals, go watch Zootopia 2. 4/5, cool movie.

7
Gibsonhasafluffybutt - 7day

I absolutely loved the first one. Thanks for the heads up!

4
Seagoon_ - 7day

I made panettone yesterday. Turned out ok. Will post pics tomoz.

7
Gibsonhasafluffybutt - 7day

Today is all about music and Nintendo Switch.

Also cats. Always cats lol

7
Force_majeure1234 - 1w

Meant to be going to colleagues birthday dinner tonight but it's only me and her and two other colleagues, with like 15 of her non work friends. I am scared and dont wanna ๐Ÿซฃ

7
CEOofmyhouse56 - 1w

You have to go otherwise those 2 colleagues are gonna talk shit about you and why you flaked. Have a good time.

6
SaneMartigan - 7day

You can go for a little bit then leave before you're burned out by it. I love a two hour party appearance.

5
Bottom_racer - 1w

Always found the ones that you don't wanna end up being better than the ones you do wanna. Universe is very mysterious that way.

4
CEOofmyhouse56 - 7day

It actually worked and it's pretty tasty. I panicked a bit when it came out because it was soft so I squashed it down a bit while it was still warm. It's kinda like a brownie. Crispy on the outside, chewy in the middle.

7
TheWitchofThornbury2 - 7day

It's very similar to a basic ANZAC bikkie recipie - just baked in a slice tin and not separately. The chewy in the middle is the best part imo.

4
CEOofmyhouse56 - 7day

ANZAC biscuits should NEVER be chewy. They should be hard like break teeth hard.

3
TheWitchofThornbury2 - 7day

WRONG! Should be crisp on the outside and chewy in the middle! I will die on this hill.

6
CEOofmyhouse56 - 7day

My understanding is they were originally made hard so they could last the distance of travel and wouldn't go mouldy before receiving them. Once they arrived soldiers dipped them into their drinks to make them soft and palatable.

I have no literature on this but I'm sure there is.

I know what people prefer though.

4
TheWitchofThornbury2 - 7day

The original recipie was different - didn't have any butter or baking soda or coconut in it. Yes, they were iron rations - and about as hard as iron too. Had to last through a long sea voyage through tropical waters with no refrigeration without spoiling. And could be eaten by both men and horses for a quick energy boost. Cheap ingredients that could be made by anyone with a woodstove and a husband/son at the frontline. One of the most outstandingly successful examples of getting the home front involved in a war without putting them at risk.

Modern recipie is different - and is inherently much softer. And burns a lot more easily (the coconut) so is baked for a crispy outside and a chewy inside so the bikkies don't burn. If baked until juuuuust a little bit burned at the edges, they're the absolute best bikkies to use for a cheesecake crust.

3
Taleya - 6day

WE DIE WITH HONOUR

wait. What are your opinions on the inclusion of coconut.

1
TheWitchofThornbury2 - 6day

Should be outlawed, but I concede that it does make anzacs biteable when cooked too long (crispy). Can be replaced with an equal volume of rolled oats without changing the bikkie too much if cooked chewy. And coconut is essential for impossible pie cos specific gravity. All other uses of coconut come under the rubric of cruel and unusual punishment. Yes I'm including lamingtons in this.

2
Taleya - 6day

WE DIE WITH HONOUR!

0
Catfish - 7day

That's gingernuts. The soft ones are an abomination.

2
Rusty Raven - 7day

That does look pretty good. I might be tempted to try that myself.

3
CEOofmyhouse56 - 7day

I added 130g of dried blueberries and some chia seeds to make it more interesting.

Next time I'd make it in a small pan so it's a bit thicker.

4
Rusty Raven - 7day

I think some dates could work quite well too. Assuming I actually get the dates I ordered this month, anyway.

4
CEOofmyhouse56 - 7day

I reckon they would go alright too.

3

Morning. Iโ€™m off to the market

7
Seagoon_ - 1w

Morning.

4
Force_majeure1234 - 7day

Okkk I guess I won't bail on dinner. I'm hungry

6
Catfish - 1w

The cats have declared war on each other over a large piece of cardboard which is apparently the best bed ever. Boyo is mediating by sitting on it himself.

6
Seagoon_ - 1w

Aaand, I have finished listening to Project Hail Mary . Got it all analysed. Nice work.

Now for a final listen for fun. ๐Ÿ™‚

6
tombruzzo - 7day

The Best Show is doing a list of top 50 luckiest MFers and some of the people that have made the list are Anthony Kiedis, David Lee Roth, and Dave Grohl for attaching themselves to bands of much more talented musicians that helped elevate their profile.

I think they should include Mike Patton for similar reasons. He's exceptionally talented but he joined Faith No More at the right time which helped elevate Mr Bungle and allowed him to launch Ipecac and do all his other projects. He's an example of someone getting lucky for the right reasons and making the most of it

6
useless_modern_god - 6day

Phil Collins should be on that list?

1
tombruzzo - 6day

He was certainly in the right place at the right time to rejuvenate a failing prog band

1
Rusty Raven - 7day

I have lasagne in the oven with a couple of trays of veg, now I just need to wait. I'm pretty happy with past me who decided to make a bunch of mini lasagnes for the freezer.

6
Rusty Raven - 1w

There were so many ducks blocking the road to work moving very begrudgingly out of the way of my car that I felt like I was crossing a picket line.

5
imoldgreeeg - 1w

At least one of us has their ducks in a row

5
Rusty Raven - 7day

In a row is definitely better than the single duck that likes to wait on the nature strip and then run out suddenly in front of the car. Ducks really shouldn't play chicken.

5
Rusty Raven - 7day

It was looking like the monthly grocery shop was going to be a bit cheaper than normal, then I decided to get some turkey and ham and some more dried fruit and extra butter so I can do some baking. Now it's looking like it will be a bit more expensive than normal.

5
tone212_ - 7day

I defrosted things thinking Iโ€™d do a quick BBQ cook up tonight but I really canโ€™t be bothered now. Iโ€™m getting hungry too.

5
melbaboutown - 1w

I found something about solvent free oil painting around small kids/pets that slightly sets me at ease. https://www.sophieploeg.com/blog/safe-studio-oil-painting-without-solvents/

A bit doubtful about cleaning with soap and water but the brushes and paints were cheap if they get ruined and hopefully if I wipe brushes well I can do the kitty litter dump of a reasonably limited amount of wash water. (Though Iโ€™m not sure about cleaning with water between colours.)

Found a small set of water mixable oil paints off an art supply site for a lot cheaper and am debating it despite hearing itโ€™s not a great alternative.

Now all I have to confront is myself ๐Ÿซฉ๐Ÿ˜” Which to be honest is the whole battle.

4
Seagoon_ - 1w

I wash my brushes between uses but I use the same brush for the same colour or colour group as it it's nigh on impossible to get perfectly clean.

And have labelled my brushes with some sticky tape so I know which is which.

3
melbaboutown - 7day

I wonder if with careful order and wiping I could get away with only two

1
melbaboutown - 7day

::: spoiler spoiler Iโ€™ve been trying to catch up on cleaning and avoid rage bait/doomscrolling but I am not managing to pull myself out of a vicious depression hole. Failing at life and failing at art. I just want to move out of where I am but that seems hopeless.

Also feeling vulnerable because I managed to crack my head quite hard a few days ago, and pretty sure I have a concussion. Iโ€™ve mentioned it to my Dr during a visit a few days ago but havenโ€™t really had it checked out. Hoping it will pass if I take it easy. I really donโ€™t want to have to go to hospital. :::

4
Bottom_racer - 7day

crack my head quite hard a few days ago, and pretty sure I have a concussion

Believe me get that checked.

5
melbaboutown - 7day

My local hospital makes you wait 9-14 hours just to receive a bag of iv fluid, nobodyโ€™s available right now to be with Melbcat, and the last time I went I felt really unsafe from another patient.

I told my gp who didnโ€™t seem too concerned but Iโ€™m keeping an eye on it.

5
LowExperience2368 - 7day

Noooo :( please go get your head checked out if you can, and rest up or the concussion will force you to.

Also you're not failing at life!! We could all be doing more, but this is everyone's first time living. If you wouldn't beat one of us up about it, don't beat yourself up.

4
melbaboutown - 7day

I would if there was a walk in option. Perhaps Iโ€™ll call the after hours doctor (which I should have sooner)

3
imoldgreeeg - 7day

Yeah I reckon thats worth it

4
LowExperience2368 - 7day

Virtual ED?

3
melbaboutown - 7day

Yeah, Iโ€™m going through that now (thereโ€™s some waiting between being seen by different people)

3
imoldgreeeg - 7day

Headache, nausea, dizziness? Extra sleepiness? Hope it's all good. Big hugs

4
melbaboutown - 7day

Headache, tingling in hands. Iโ€™ve been managing fairly normally for a few days but am just anxious

3
tone212_ - 6day

I packed away my electric throw blanket today with it now being summer and all. Promptly returned to the couch tonight.

4
Seagoon_ - 7day

Listening to PHM for fun.

I learnt one new word, decrement.

Reminded me how relaxing I find physics, it's so orderly and is an exercise in clear thinking. ( yeah, you read that right )

I like how it pulls apart the goldilocks theory, which I think only got traction because it has a memorable name

it's la-bo-ra-tory, not labra-tory ๐Ÿ˜‰

4
Seagoon_ - 1w

I reckon next week there will be at least 100 million bumped off various social media sites and social media companies will be screaming

because their user list is their main asset.

Guys, I need some help here. I wanna make this recipe but step 6 has got me stumped. There's no chocolate in the ingredients. Do I put it in and how much and what kinda chocolate or do I ignore? It's doing my head in.

https://fatmumslim.com.au/oat-slice/

3
Bottom_racer - 7day

No choc but you could melt some down and put it on top:

5
CEOofmyhouse56 - 7day

I could

3
StudSpud The Starchy - 7day

Agree with Force, there's no chocolate in the recipe that's just an author typo methinks

4
CEOofmyhouse56 - 7day

Thank you ๐Ÿ‘

3
Force_majeure1234 - 7day

No chocolate. Author fkd up

3
CEOofmyhouse56 - 7day

Thank you ๐Ÿ‘

3
TheWitchofThornbury2 - 7day

Ignore step 6. Once baked slice is cool, then melt choc of choice and pour over the top.

Putting choc on BEFORE baking? SACRILEGE!

3
CEOofmyhouse56 - 7day

Thanks but I'm gonna chuck some dried blueberries in there instead.

3
Pilk - 7day

Reading that I thought I was going crazy. The steps with pictures don't mention chocolate, but the recipe card at the bottom does.

3
Rusty Raven - 7day

They did a cut and paste from a recipe that included the chocolate and just missed taking out that line. Very poor editing.

3
CEOofmyhouse56 - 7day

Yes. Exactly.

2
melbaboutown - 6day

Ok, probably concussion. Recommendations are to rest, watch out for the danger signs, and try not to do it again.

3
