A bad day does not equate to a bad life. Sending hugs, chocolate and compassion.

5
StudSpud The Starchy - 2w

So the cattery messaged me and said I'll find out if I got the job by the end of the day Wednesday, because another applicant had to delay their trial shift.

Now me arriving 10 minutes early to mine looks real good methinks ๐Ÿ™

Edit: I want be Ron Swanson, but really I'm the Eurotrash he hates ๐Ÿ˜‚

It is December. The tree is going up

10
Seagoon_ - 2w

2 more weeks for me

but I will put up some solar lights outside and then they can stay up all year

4
Seagoon_ - 2w

omg, Ted loves watching the new Frankenstein movie ๐Ÿ˜ป๐ŸงŸ I'll get a pic

10
Seagoon_ - 2w

yes, he is floofy,

and it's late spring and I'm chasing him everywhere trying to brush his knots out, you would think I was killing him the way he carries on

I may have to get him sedated again to do the defluffing/deknotting

6
melbaboutown - 2w

Submit to the brush Ted! Otherwise youโ€™ll need a lion shave and youโ€™ll have a mullet again

5
Seagoon_ - 2w

He's purrfect!

4
SpinMeRound - 2w

Sometimes I get so bored at work that I do actual work.

9
tombruzzo - 2w

I feel lucky that getting bored at work means I can get on those backburner projects you always wanted to get around to but never could

6
MeanElevator - 2w

I get most, if not all, of my work done by 11 am each day. Afternoon is dedicated to catching up on tv shows etc.

Anything comes up work related, it gets done straight away.

It's a good way to avoid boredom :)

5
Seagoon_ - 2w

I love this

6
LowExperience2368 - 2w

Can I have your job?

3
Thornburywitch - 2w

Shame on you!

5
Gibsonhasafluffybutt - 2w

Currently I'm making to my own work.

12 months worth of marketing newsletters is almost done. It took 2 days.

3
Seagoon_ - 2w

This hot dry weather coming is just the thing I need so I can clean the wool rugs and hang them out.

Am missing the beach but too tired and it's a bit wild out there still

8
Bottom_racer - 2w

Nothing like some sneaky 15c hail 1st day of summer.

edit now it's sunny weee

edit 2 nope more hail lol

8
Rusty Raven - 2w

Welcome back YarraByte, hope you're feeling ok.

8
LowExperience2368 - 2w

Plot twist: YarraByte is not a bot and Briongloid is posting the threads himself each night

5
Rusty Raven - 2w

Is he aware he's not a bot, or is it a Multiple Personality Disorder situation?

7
Seagoon_ - 2w

I hope not, if it is maybe we can take turns.

6
LowExperience2368 - 2w

Tried to get some rainbow photos. Didn't capture all the colours, but turned out interestingly to me.

For a rainbow to happen, there needs to be a storm.

8
Rusty Raven - 2w

Pakidge!

I decided I wasn't happy with how well the food processor kneads bread dough and decided to get a bread maker. It also gives me another option for making yoghurt which is a good thing, I usually make it in the rice cooker and some times I want to make both rice and yoghurt and things get awkward.

Myers had the model I got on special, so I price matched it with Appliances Online and bought it through them. It's funny to think when I was growing up Myers was considered a top store with great service and now I'd prefer not to buy from them if I can avoid it and don't really trust their customer service to be up to scratch. How the world has changed.

8
PeelerSheila - 2w

Same here re Myer. Last time I went I stood in the store for a good 10 minutes and was not approached once by a staff member. This would've been unheard of with the Myer of my youth.

Also let me know how you go with the breadmaker. I've been a little tempted but I'm sticking with my stretching-and-folding sourdough thing for now.

1
Rusty Raven - 2w

I have had a few breadmakers before. They are really good at kneading dough (and providing a warm place for it to rise) but are not as good at the actual baking. I intend to just use it for the kneading and then bake the loaf in the oven. Which is how my mother has been using hers for years too, with very good results.

2
PeelerSheila - 2w

Ah thankyou, that's actually really clever of your mum. Kneading can be heavy going sometimes!

1
Seagoon_ - 2w

Husband. I might use the big vacuum cleaner in my office.

Me. It's good to use the big one sometimes as the robot doesn't get the edges well.

Husband. The robot doesn't clean in here.

Me. Do you bring it in, do you switch it on

Husband. No.

Me. Then how can it can clean.

8
CEOofmyhouse56 - 2w

It's coming down hard out there and there's sunshine.

7

And not even the water soluble ones as they were so costly and would probably require the risky stuff anywayโ€ฆ I found a very cheap tiny starter pack of the real dealio.

::: spoiler Safety rambles Probably poor quality and not thick enough for my purpose and there probably isnโ€™t enough white to make Magic White without finishing the tube. There are two little brushes included but theyโ€™ll have to serve, to not mix the ones for oil and acrylic.

Added a tiny bottle of the linseed oil (refined is safer and I plan to soak the used paper towels in water then discard sealed in a ziploc or some container - Iโ€™ll ask the council).

I really got stung badly on the large bottle of odourless spirits though because there were no small bottles in stock. Ouch.

Iโ€™m thinking to clear off a plastic table near one screen door to keep everything away from curious little beans and lickable fur. And set a fan blowing through it to force the fumes outside (with the opposite door cracked for air flow and added pressure).

:::

โ€ฆNow to just ignore all my art supplies forever like a lazy useless p.o.s because of fear of failure ๐Ÿ˜”

4
Seagoon_ - 2w

it will be awesome, you will have a fun time, you are neither lazy nor useless and there is no such thing as failure

Have fun. ๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ˜˜

3
melbaboutown - 2w

Thanks. Iโ€™m struggling so badly to do anything. Donโ€™t know whatโ€™s wrong with me

3

nothing is wrong with you ๐Ÿ™‚ I think we all struggle.

The last coat of paint has gone on the lawnmower. I failed to keep the paint off my hands this time, so I'm now sprorting yellow spots. We should have a couple of mostly dry days coming up so I'll be able to get out and cut the grass and see how much difference to new sharp blades make.

7
Bottom_racer - 2w

Always wanted to sharpen my mower blades.

Also you'd mow more quickly had you painted it red.

6
Rusty Raven - 2w

My last lawnmower was basically a glorifies whipper snipper and had a plastic 'blade'. Having to worry about things like sharpening a blade is a new thing for me.

I don't really want the lawnmower to go too fast, I generally keep the speed control closer to tortoise than hare, so red could have been a problem. The yellow is all underneath so is mostly invisible anyway & I'm pretty sure the red thing only works if you can see it.

4
Catfish - 2w

Nice thread YarraByte, spin me a yarn

Spin us a yarn you're Yarrabyte, spin us a yarn tonight

1
Seagoon_ - 2w

Sorting through jewellery I have bought, repaired and jewellery findings for bad parts that might be made with toxic metals.

a lot of things I buy are not cheap and they are just fake , they even fake safety certs

throwing out some new things, ๐Ÿ˜ remaking some and substituting with safe old parts

6
Seagoon_ - 2w

So what is everyone doing on this very rainy day? ๐ŸŒง๏ธโ˜”๐Ÿ™‚

6
PeelerSheila - 2w

Have to take Miniest to an appointment and decided last week to take the day off for it. Also going to take the opportunity to make some boring but important phone calls that I can't do on work time.

5
Catfish - 2w

Avoiding work

3
melbaboutown - 2w

Bedrotting :(

Itโ€™s a sucky day and I know I should try to get up and do something productive but I just canโ€™t. I donโ€™t even want to do any art

1
Force_majeure112 @lemmy.world - 2w

Working ๐Ÿ™ƒ

1
Seagoon_ - 2w

Operation UnKAOS is going really well.

I have learnt to not let mission creep eat up my time.

6
melbaboutown - 2w

A few more yellow poppies are out and the vermilion nasturtiums are rioting. They donโ€™t seem to need any help so Iโ€™ll leave them be. Boring.

I want to buy some water soluble oils but donโ€™t know how to dispose safely of the wash water, donโ€™t know what to do if cleaning or thinning does require linseed oil, and honestly I donโ€™t think I can shift myself to actually use them.

Depressed as fuck and art blocked to the point I donโ€™t even want to practice ๐Ÿ˜” Canโ€™t even pick up a pencil and practice.

6
SaneMartigan - 2w

Put the manky paints stuff on some kitty litter then bag and bin it?

6
melbaboutown - 2w

Thatโ€™s actually a really good idea. Maybe I can wait till Iโ€™ve binned the used litter and tip the dirty paint water in the bin on top of it.

Just a bit worried because it may contaminate quite a lot of water during the cleaning, too much to absorb without wasting expensive clean litter, as a review said that soap and water cleaning was very inefficient and they ended up eventually resorting to solvent or linseed oil anyway. And the โ€˜solubleโ€™ paints didnโ€™t thin well with water.

::: spoiler Safety ramble I could use a few drops of linseed oil for thinning only and wash brushes with odour free solvent with all the fans going full blast, but thatโ€™s like doing traditional oil paints anyway and really does seem like it needs a studio and safety measures I donโ€™t have. If not for me, for my cat. She likes to be right in the thick of things.

And the cost of the materialsโ€ฆ

Evaporation and disposal of the solids is possible but not practical in a small space and if thereโ€™s a lot of liquid.

Acrylics are a lot more practical in every way but I just really donโ€™t enjoy working with them. Theyโ€™re so thin and smeary, low quality and streaky. :::

Ah wellโ€ฆ I do have to learn to draw worth a damn before I begin painting anyway.

4
Seagoon_ - 2w

take some photos of your flowers

pick some flowers and put them in a vase

You have created something beautiful. That is art. ๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ˜˜

and for practice, get some colouring books , it's easy, relaxing and kinda practice

5
melbaboutown - 2w

I was given some adult colouring books but donโ€™t really get anything out of them.

Iโ€™ll have to remember to donate them somewhere for Christmas gifts.

4
Seagoon_ - 2w

I find them good for brush painting skills

5
tombruzzo - 2w

My girlfriend tried to use her laptop to look at some Black Friday stuff last night and she's just getting sick of how slow it is. It 'upgraded' itself to W11 a while ago and that's part of her problem. The other one is probably that it's only running on 8gb RAM.

I think she wants to run a debloater finally but I may get her to covert over to Linux completely. If I did she would actually be more all in on Linux than me, I still have Windows on one of the drives of my main computer.

6
melbaboutown - 2w

Yeah as soon as Win11 came in it ate all my drive storage and processing power. Now I only really use that machine for one game and everything else if possible gets done on my phoneโ€ฆ

Itโ€™s such a bad OS

Theyโ€™re fighting about extending support for Win10 but I think itโ€™s too late to roll it back or I would

Edit: I think I saw something about Firefox guzzling resources too. So that might be another reason things are slow. There might have been something to fix that but I forget

2
tombruzzo - 2w

She still uses Chrome but Firefox isn't that much better these days. We'll debloat it but I can get a laptop off work for the price of a 1TB SSD so maybe it becomes a project or backup laptop.

Whatever we end up doing I think I'll put bazzite on there for her because it's similar to the steamdeck she already has and it's main colour is purple, which is her favourite colour

How is it December already?

Not sure if the tree is going up in this house because I have a dog that pees on almost any corner he is capable of lifting his leg on

5
SpinMeRound - 2w

I have a cat who would make it his personal mission to attack attack attack.

4
CEOofmyhouse56 - 2w

If I put a tree up I'd be sacrificing my clothes horse space so that ain't happening. Then you gotta tear it down a month later. I can't be bothered with that shit.

4
Taleya - 2w

I put it up early to terrorise the husband who has not yet even thought about presents

5
CEOofmyhouse56 - 2w

Hahaha. We give each other presents all the time. We put cash into YL's bank account for Christmas. I'm cool with not having a tree. Plus tinsel makes me sneeze.

4
TheWitchofThornbury2 - 2w

It's bin night here in Thornbury, and NO ONE but me has their bins out. Council website is silent on the issue. Has something happened that I don't know about but everyone else does? I am starting to worry.

5
Rusty Raven - 2w

Probably just everyone avoiding going out in the rain for as long as possible.

4
melbaboutown - 2w

Last night I grabbed a bucket and washed a couple of soft toys that had been sitting in the laundry basket for ages. Hung them in the shower to drip dry but theyโ€™re still really wet where water has collected at the bottom. I squeezed some of it out but I might have to rough up the stuffing further by wrapping them in a towel and squeezing or weighting.

I probably did it wrong but am just trying to get things around the house cleaned and sorted in the most straightforward ways possible.

Edit: Gentle spin cycle I guess. The stuffing is already a tiny bit lumpier from the agitation of fitting it in the bucket so I guess I can just replace the filling if it gets really clumped. Not looking forward to the largest one at all. (The proper techniques according to the guides are a hassle.)

4
LowExperience2368 - 2w

::: spoiler overwhelm i am still doing an assignment that was due a week ago. family is giving me a lot of shit for it and making me feel ashamed. lots of the whole "get a job" and "what have you contributed to this family?" talk and that i'm a loser. i am focusing on finishing this assignment tonight and going to apply for jobs so i'm not underemployed. i don't know if i want to do this course anymore, or if i could take it on if i was actually treated for adhd. the dr said no stimulants, and i'm scared to try anymore meds. i've tried three different meds and none of them 'worked'.

this plus the itching that's lasted for months. i wonder if it's stress related. going to give it a couple more days of moisturising and see if it works. google says it's a sign of cancer. of course it does.

:::

3
melbaboutown - 2w

Your family are kind of being jerksโ€ฆ shame is demotivating. And any kind of meds aimed at improving your mental health or ability to cope probably wonโ€™t work in this environment.

Do your best. Stress can sometimes result in hives

2
LowExperience2368 - 2w

I agree. Turns out I have failed the subject because of unsubmitted assessment but I looked at the policy and they can only not mark an assessment if it's more than 10 days overdue, which mine is not. Let's see what happens.

Thanks Melba.
