Mr. Trump voiced his opinion... We know what to do right? (The opposite.)

Actually the above is just my joking-not-so-joking feedback. What's your take on that, Aussies? (I'm a European ATM.)

Mostly to ignore it and if he arcs up, laugh at him and tell him to rack off

The libs (tory/republican).hitched their wagon to be more trumpian at the last election and were destroyed, their leader lost his seat and it appears they still haven't learnt their lesson. The current leader tried to say the PM was anti-Semitic because he wore a Joy Division t-shirt.

Labor, I fear, won't learn lessons either. The middle class is shrinking, so keeping them happy, which has been the plan from both parties for the last 30 years, wont work as well.

We are at risk of falling for populist leader but I suspect this might come from the left, the punching down on migrants and wedge politics doesn't seem to work anymore.

The left are already behind lots of the pro-housing and volunteer groups on the ground. If they can get a microphone to their lips then I think there's a real chance of it (easier said than done when mass media and social media are dominated/owned by the owning class). We've seen a small wave of socialist candidates elected in the US, who have far more of an antisocialist ingrained culture. So it's certainly possible for left popular politics to take ground here.

Def hope so and would love to see a more educated, egalitarian society. Would love to see Labor just be braver and actually up end the status quo, break up the media and actually have multi nationals pay their dues.

Not having a viable opposition doesn't help and makes our democracy weaker. The peanut antics today when the lights briefly turned off was cringe as fuck.

Maybe it will be a new entity further to the left of Labor that might be the next major party. Greens imo struggle with their messaging

I think unfortunately this is no longer possible because of corporate capture

At least, this is the only thing that makes sense to me as to why they're so ascendant yet are doing only piecemeal improvements (and also many steps backward).

Greens are a non-starter because of their image as champagne socialists, and the fact the party is an internal dictatorship similar to the LNP (members don't get to vote on policy).

There's the socialists, but sadly, they're still a long way off actually challenging the other parties.

And a smattering of other smaller parties.

Isn't support for Hanson growing though?

1
stonkage - 2w

Yes growing hardly by huge margins and all it's doing is taking votes from the libs, the conservatives will end up eating each other.

Australia is not at risk for a populist leader. We have compulsory voting and populism is dependent on winning based on turnout.

We see One Nation surging, but the only way they'd win an election is if we had a two-party system (Labor and One Nation) without compulsory voting.

Also the Libs are closer to the Democrats than Republicans.
