We're eventually going to gut and redo the kitchen, it's the only place we can fit the dishwasher atm. We can live with sometimes having to put dishes on the bench and close the machine before putting them away - our previous dishwasher is a benchtop that lived in the friggin' laundry out the back :P It's only a 45cm one anyway, so it's not a huge thing jutting out into the space.

A cafe at my uni sells muffins with a centimetre thick slice of bacon in.
I was curious if it's possible to buy bacon that thick as a consumer, and where. The local butchers either don't have any, or just have the same thing slices Coles and Woolworths have.
5
CEOofmyhouse56 - 1mon
You gotta ask for it to be cut thick at a good butchers.
4
TheWitchofThornbury2 - 1mon
Sometimes fick bacon appears at Aldi on special. Colesworth also sometimes have 'ham steaks' which can be tweaked to function as bacon for muffin purposes. However YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED that the worst, the absolute WORST case of food poisoning I've ever had came from ham steaks that hadn't been properly stored. I'm talking hospitalisation level of food poisoning. With a drip to counter dehydration. Do not recommend. So embarrassing.
Good butcher should be able to carve off some thicker bacon off the pig if needed. As per CEO below. Or buy a chunk of kaiserfleisch from a deli and chop it into slices yourself. This costs more but is very good.
EDIT: Psarakos supermarket in Thornbury (not the vegie section) will cut cured meats of amazing variety to your specifications. Price can be eyewatering, but worth it for exactly what you want.

I watched LA Confidential last night because I read the book and was surprised how enjoyable it was. The movie took a lot out for brevity but a lot is lost in what was removed.
The book isn't good, and it's a bit long, but it never commits the crime of being boring. The stakes are much higher, and whilst it becomes predictable as you realise all the sub plots are tied together, it's still a fun read to see it all tie off.
The main thing I was interested in was who they cast as Ed Exley, and our own Guy Pierce does an amazing job. An unexpected pull but he fills the role well. He has the acting chops that if they fleshed out his character more he could have played the transactional coward with the thin veneer of the department golden boy.
Russel Crowe was the other main character, and Simon Baker made an appearance. It's funny that a movie about LA is full of Australian actors.
I think a screen adaptation needed to be either longer to include everything, or somehow cut out even more to focus on the most interesting part at the end.
I'd give the book maybe 3/5 hobbits and the movie probably 2-2.5/5. It's crazy the film got marked for preservation by the American Film Association or whatever, there should be a rule against including inferior adaptations of already average source material.
