StudSpud The Starchy - 1mon

Applied for a job yesterday, phone interview today, and in-person interview tomorrow!

Eyy ooo

Yay Yay!! Lots of good vibes for tomorrow coming your way!

6
StudSpud The Starchy - 1mon

Eeee thank you! ๐Ÿ’œ

4
TheWitchofThornbury2 - 1mon

Best of luck! Is dis an animile job?

6
StudSpud The Starchy - 1mon

Nein! It is however a 2-day-per-week call centre job. The 2 working days offsets the call centre aspect haha

6
TheWitchofThornbury2 - 1mon

Hrrmm. Keep applying for animile jobs. Then you can tell call centre to FO with zero guilt.

4
StudSpud The Starchy - 1mon

The plan is to us the pay from this job to pay for intensive driving lessons to fast track getting my Ps; almost all animal attendant roles require a driver's licence, so once I get that I can start really throwing myself at those jobs. And it will be easy to attend any interviews if I only work two days a week.

I'm still applying for the animal roles anyway, because you never know lol

3
TheWitchofThornbury2 - 1mon

That's a plan! Onward & Upward!

How did LowE's presentation go?

And no fighting.

I bet the garden and seedlings look great.

Good luck on the job interview.

Get well soon , bless you for the sneezing.

10am? You can sleep in a bit.

9

Aww Seagoon, this comment is thoughtful of you <3

Presentation did not go amazingly but could've gone worse.

2

Would you choose to be a flightless bird forever for $100 million?

7

Can I pick what bird I can be?

I'd like to be a cassowary, because their headgear is rad and they look like dinosaurs

8
Taleya - 1mon

They ARE dinosaurs. Fucking insane ones at that

5
force_majeure1234 @lemmy.world - 1mon

You may

4
TheWitchofThornbury2 - 1mon

No. Birds don't have bank accounts, so the $$ is kinda theoretical if you did pick up on the offer.

6
force_majeure1234 @lemmy.world - 1mon

Then you'd be a bird though, and it could be cash money - who needs a bank account

I got in hilarious internet trouble once for replying to a blanket "ALWAYS BELIEVE RAPE ACCUSATIONS" macro with a pic of Tom Robinson on trial.

3
Seagoon_ - 1mon

oh my, that would have made them quite angry

3
Rusty Raven - 1mon

I made an early start on my garden support assembling last night and now have four garden obelisks sitting in my shower (the one I don't use, it may as well do something). I have set up a shelf over the bath (which I also don't use) in a nice bright spot to put some of my punnets onto until the seeds sprout and they can be moved outdoors. The dog has been walked, breakfast has been eaten. I think I'm ready to move onto seed planting now.

6
melbaboutown - 1mon

Yesterday was productive. I managed to get two weeks worth of the antibiotics Melbcat needs, plus her solensia and vitamin b and a kidney check.

Iโ€™m going to be grabbing the other bottle of antibiotics from her usual vet as well just to be sure. It still isnโ€™t in. How long has it been??

The lesion on her lip is more unusual than that one on her nose and may need a biopsy. :(

But do they move? Even when leveraging combined yoinks of two adults? Also no!

Plus they meet the tolerances for the dishwasher mounts. And that's the important part.

:::

5
Thornburywitch - 1mon

Um, if that's the corner, which way does the dishwasher open? Will opening it close off access to the bits next to it?

2
Taleya - 1mon

standand down hinge door, cupboard to the left is under the sink (the side less frequently used, holding things like cat water bowl cleaning kits and shizz), cupboard to the right is small appliances. Both are double doored

We're eventually going to gut and redo the kitchen, it's the only place we can fit the dishwasher atm. We can live with sometimes having to put dishes on the bench and close the machine before putting them away - our previous dishwasher is a benchtop that lived in the friggin' laundry out the back :P It's only a 45cm one anyway, so it's not a huge thing jutting out into the space.

edit: also: I have about 15cm clearance either side, so I'ma gonna make some rolly polly pull out cupboards to store pans and wire racks for baking

3
Thornburywitch - 1mon

I am all in favour of vertical storage for flat items - saves so much space.

3
T156 @lemmy.world - 1mon

Where do you buy thick bacon?

A cafe at my uni sells muffins with a centimetre thick slice of bacon in.

I was curious if it's possible to buy bacon that thick as a consumer, and where. The local butchers either don't have any, or just have the same thing slices Coles and Woolworths have.

5
CEOofmyhouse56 - 1mon

You gotta ask for it to be cut thick at a good butchers.

4
TheWitchofThornbury2 - 1mon

Sometimes fick bacon appears at Aldi on special. Colesworth also sometimes have 'ham steaks' which can be tweaked to function as bacon for muffin purposes. However YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED that the worst, the absolute WORST case of food poisoning I've ever had came from ham steaks that hadn't been properly stored. I'm talking hospitalisation level of food poisoning. With a drip to counter dehydration. Do not recommend. So embarrassing.

Good butcher should be able to carve off some thicker bacon off the pig if needed. As per CEO below. Or buy a chunk of kaiserfleisch from a deli and chop it into slices yourself. This costs more but is very good.

EDIT: Psarakos supermarket in Thornbury (not the vegie section) will cut cured meats of amazing variety to your specifications. Price can be eyewatering, but worth it for exactly what you want.

4
SaneMartigan - 1mon

Try a search for "melbourne continental smallgoods manufacturer" and see what's near your place.

3
Catfish - 1mon

I got some that thick by accident getting a bulk packet from CBM.

3
tombruzzo - 1mon

Even a good deli or butcher will have bacon that's sliced to order so you can get it as thick as you want. Nothing beats bacon sliced when you ask for it

Why does KFC have banh mi? ๐Ÿ˜ญ and McDonalds has matcha?

4
tone212_ - 1mon

I saw a review of the KFC banh mi a couple days ago. Apparently it's just the zinger fillet and slaw in a long roll, no pate, hoisin/soy or other key banh mi ingredients. No thanks.

5
Alamutjones - 1mon

I can get a ludicrously good banh mi 150m down the street anyway. KFC will have to cope without my custom

5
LowExperience2368 - 1mon

And they call that a banh mi??

I watched LA Confidential last night because I read the book and was surprised how enjoyable it was. The movie took a lot out for brevity but a lot is lost in what was removed.

The book isn't good, and it's a bit long, but it never commits the crime of being boring. The stakes are much higher, and whilst it becomes predictable as you realise all the sub plots are tied together, it's still a fun read to see it all tie off.

The main thing I was interested in was who they cast as Ed Exley, and our own Guy Pierce does an amazing job. An unexpected pull but he fills the role well. He has the acting chops that if they fleshed out his character more he could have played the transactional coward with the thin veneer of the department golden boy.

Russel Crowe was the other main character, and Simon Baker made an appearance. It's funny that a movie about LA is full of Australian actors.

I think a screen adaptation needed to be either longer to include everything, or somehow cut out even more to focus on the most interesting part at the end.

I'd give the book maybe 3/5 hobbits and the movie probably 2-2.5/5. It's crazy the film got marked for preservation by the American Film Association or whatever, there should be a rule against including inferior adaptations of already average source material.

3
SaneMartigan - 1mon

Great soundtrack.

3
Seagoon_ - 1mon

Elroy is definitely an interesting writer and I kinda like his terse writing style

but he is very in your face and that takes getting used to

the movie reminds me of Bonfire of the Vanities, a sweeping saga that tries to do too much , is voyeuristic , yet still very enjoyable
