CEOofmyhouse56 - 2mon
Employers just wanna be able to pronounce your name. Do want you gotta do to get that job. ๐ค
7
Catfish - 2mon
Yeah, I'd err on not explaining unless asked. (Equally got really upset at being asked why for mortgage docs)
7
Seagoon_ - 2mon
My father changed his traditional European first name to fit in socially as people had trouble pronouncing it. It used to be very common to change names in Australia. Just say it's easier.
Saying it was to get a job implies employers are racist and might be deemed as you insulting them or blaming others. ( yes, many ARE racist and it's been proven HR often rejects based on name but they might get a bit upset if you point it out )

I absolutely despise the fact that people feel the need to change their names for jobs. When my dad rocked up to his first job, the manager said to him, "You're not going to sell anything with a name like that."
That was 40 years ago. He still goes by the name he was given by that manager with everyone except for family and close friends.
7
Gibsonhasafluffybutt - 2mon
Yep. Simon hears you loud and clear
5
Catfish - 2mon
It's only his Real Name if he wants it to be.
I changed mine because I loathed the thing my parents picked. Boyo has a legal he hates that I feel really weird using, alas paperwork requires declarations of all priors so there is no real escape.
5
Seagoon_ - 2mon
Name changes when you move country is not just about negating possible racism.
There are language differences and abilities to pronounce a name.
It's also about leaving behind the past and starting anew.
I feel it's up to the individual and will respect what they choose.

Aw yeee Hell House LLC Lineage came out on Shudder today! I binged the series the other week in preparation lol!
First one that isn't in found footage format, but it isn't bad!
Edit: there's totally gonna be a sixth film, they left this one on a cliffhanger lol! I love these films, they're just good, clean ghost/haunted hotel films. Nothing fancy or groundbreaking, but also no gore or over the top violence; just jumpscares and creepiness and a strange meandering story that seems to change depending on the film ๐ I recommend the series for Halloween, and would rate it pg13 with parental guidance for under 15s I think

Melbcat is getting the Aldara cream for her nose and lip today. Iโm worried about the soreness and irritation itโs going to do to her skin. Apparently it can be brutal. But this is treatment to stop the actinic keratosis cells turning cancerous and spreading.

Front yard has been mown (I did the back yesterday). It was a touch windier today, I had to swap out my broad-brimmed straw hat to my wind-resistant felt version. It provides less sun coverage but does stay on my head.
I have determined that the grass clippings from a full cut of front & back yard is enough to cover nearly half the edges of the back garden beds with a weed-suppression border layer. Hopefully that in combination with going around the grass edges with the edger to cut back any runner grasses will keep most of the grass encroachment under control.
