that's lovely, you have such a beautiful garden
7
StudSpud The Starchy - 3mon
I'm the only one in the entire family who likes partner's dad's music, because it's basically just Gold FM ๐
9
Bottom_racer - 3mon
Gold FM these days just makes me feel old. Not because the music is old... because a lot isn't.. sometimes a banger comes on from my youth and I'm sitting there wondering if it's the right station heh.
5
StudSpud The Starchy - 3mon
It do be that way. I sometimes do a double take like "wait I thought this was gold? Oh I'm old ๐ญ"
And I did mean Gold FM as it was in the 90s ๐๐๐
5
Seagoon_ - 3mon
I don't listen to radio
only in shops and more often than not it annoys me
I always think to myself "would shops have played Doris Day and Bing Crosby in the 80s"?
3
StudSpud The Starchy - 3mon
The radio music in stores are generally just abominable lol
4
Bottom_racer - 3mon
I dunno local woolies was playing Ace of Base the other day and it was difficult not to groove shop.

Happy Hobbit Day.
I think I will watch the movies today.
and I earned my keep. ๐คญ๐คซ
a few months back I bought some men's merino jumpers at the op shop, they were brand new with tags, very good brands, they were really lovely, cost $10 in total
but they didn't fit husband so I gave them to BIL without telling him they were op shop, he didn't need to know, they were actually new and I had washed them too
yesterday he came to visit , said he liked those jumpers so much he gave me $200, I protested a lot , of course said nothing about op shop as he wouldn't approve.
now I'm $190 up ( but I did find them and buy and then gave them to him and he does hate shopping )

It's Jewish new year today, honey cake is the traditional choice. I had some, it was okay, I wasn't all ohh honey cake, this is what its all about.
3
PeelerSheila - 3mon
Ah, TIL. My calendar is from the zoo and it's a bit patchy on cultural events, but will tell me stuff like it's the international day of the cassowary lol
3
Taleya - 3mon
Is that the day of screaming and dying? Cassowarys are terrifying megafauna
2
PeelerSheila - 3mon
Not sure, calendar says it's the same day as the grand final public holiday so maybe ๐
2
SpinMeRound - 3mon
That looks so tasty!! Mind sharing the recipe?
2
PeelerSheila - 3mon
Sure, it's this one. It turned out very nicely, was a simple recipe for Miniest to help with and I'll definitely be making it again ๐
2
SpinMeRound - 3mon
Going to the ballet on Saturday and am very excited! Except it dawned on me that that it's on at the same time as the Grand Final. Do you guys think city parking will be affected much by the Grand Final? I'm assuming places like Crown will be way busier than usual because of all of the AFL centric events they have. I was thinking of parking somewhere in the northern CBD since we'll probably have dinner that way after the show.
8
Bottom_racer - 3mon
I always avoid the CBD on GF night so all I can say is good luck :)
7
SpinMeRound - 3mon
Thanks, me too. Bought the tickets months ago without thinking too much about the date!
2
tone212_ - 3mon
I wouldnโt drive in the CBD on GF day, it will be manic. Is PT an option? Parking northern CBD works if you donโt need to drive through the CBD. But expect time limits for street parking.
5
SpinMeRound - 3mon
Unfortunately PT into the city isn't an option due to some very stubborn people, that would be my preference as well! PT in the city is (marginally) acceptable though.
I think I'll try and book a parking garage that end and see what happens.
3
tone212_ - 3mon
I know those types of stubborn people too. Thereโs lots of parking garages in Carlton then easy tram in. Should be able to cheap weekend rates too.
4
MeanElevator - 3mon
We usually park in North Melbourne (Victoria/Roden St) on weekends and never had problems finding spots. Free parking after 1230.
3
SpinMeRound - 3mon

Going down to Bussleton today for a few nights with the Partner's Family. Should have better reception down there so I'll post some piccies :D

Woo! I had my school leavers in Busselton ๐ get some nice jetty pics
4

It's an amazing place! Last time I was in Perth we flew in and out of Bussleton. I went on the little train on the jetty and the aquarium at the end! It's utterly beautiful!!! ๐๐
2
SaneMartigan - 3mon
I went to the drug testing centre in Fitzroy on the weekend. I found some drugs in the park a while ago and wanted to see what they were. More as a curiosity than as a fiend. Turns out it was shit meth so I ditched it. But it was a great facility, friendly, clean, professional. I was open about how I got the drugs and they were happy to be able to test them for the purposes of harm reduction.

7
LowExperience2368 - 3mon
Well I sleep screamed last night again, except this time I had this imagery that someone came into my room and woke up on the last scream shaking. Dog came on my bed trying to lick my face.
I wonder if it's just stress. I was stressing about an assignment yesterday, but I know how I'm going to approach it. It's not fun to get stressed and overwhelmed so easily.
7
Seagoon_ - 3mon
so I had a 3 hour sleep, just had some chicken cottage pie for dinner, think I will have another rest/sleep now
I suppose strong allergic reactions are like being poisoned and take time to recover from
7
imoldgreeeg - 3mon
Absolutely. You need rest. And lots of water

I was slightly late with cat dinner. Misha is jingling her collar disapprovingly at me.

I made my own alphabet poster to teach the kids how to read. I just picked up some copies because I got it printed and laminated. It will be interesting to see how the kids take it
6
PeelerSheila - 3mon
That's so cool! I did the same with my kids, with pictures of things they're actually interested in/are relevant to them. Once you start looking at alphabet stuff you notice all the different things in ones that aren't produced locally.
4
tombruzzo - 3mon
That's why I made my own flash cards so I could use photos of things they actually have or are around. I figured it would be easier for them to recognise something like a bus if it was the same one they see around.
2

I found a review on the other place about water soluble oil paints and apparently the brand they tried was quite thick which would work nicely for me.
However the upshot was that cleaning with soap and water alone was possible, it was very slow and inefficient so the person ended up using mineral spirits to clean the brushes. Which I could do outside afterwards in a disposable container and then let it evaporate outside to then dispose of the solids in the bin or through the council.
However I donโt have that many brushes so might need to clean my brushes between colours, and itโs not practical for me to be outside the whole time.
Also the mixture doesnโt maintain integrity and stability when thinned with water, so I would still be dealing with linseed oil and the flammability involved.
Iโve been trying out an oil painting technique using coloured pencils insteadโฆ The idea and some of the effect is the same but letโs say while the medium is much safer and more convenient (especially working from bed) it leaves a lot to be desired. Despite careful sharpening and patient light handed layering thereโs still patchiness and weak colour payoff.

Yeah. Even have to think about that with โwater solubleโ type whichโฆ defeats the purpose.
Acrylics are just not nice
4

Realising that a game I used to play for years and really rely on as a constant through tough times is becoming more of a negative stagnant place for me :/ Itโs becoming repetitive and depressing as I realise a lot of it is padding, meaningless busywork to substitute for the lack of new content.
Itโs a shame because thatโs where I was going to spend more time once all my other online spaces are taken away.
Obviously the answer to this is to touch grass. But honestly my irl area is even more toxic. So no. Iโm not spending what little physical energy I have now to end up unsafe and stressed.
