What is a climate target, and how does Australia’s new one for 2035 stack up against other countries? | Labor’s new goal for 2035 is for emissions to be 62% to 70% lower than in 2005.
For me the target is not a big deal, we emit such a tiny amount of co2 and even without a target it's clear our co2 emissions are on the downtrend and I applaud any countries or european unions where co2 emissions are going down
Our coal power plants are on their way out, by 2035 I'll be surprised if we have more than 10 left
It's quite clear we're going to be slashing our emissions quite heavily as the coal power plants slowly drop off one by one

2/3rds is a pretty damn lazy effort, but apparently that puts us among the best, so yay, I guess?
We ought to be ensuring we also take responsibility for emissions made as a result of our actions, including any coal or oil that we export. But you just know we're not.

With no way ift getting there its a aspirational goal akak hreenwashing bullshit to be met.by future poltocans.
To be fair, voters won't accept the change in lifestyle's necessaey to achive significant cuts, if voyers wwre.serious m, we'd have a Green Government. We're also opening massive gas extraction plants and expanding some coal mines.
The entire thing as a shambolic mess,.driven the assumption that the lawsnof nature aren't as important as human entitlement.
