Sounds like Solar subsidies? But why is it suburb by suburb? I didn't really pick that up in the article.

Probably all the suburbs that have metered gas connections to each home.

Would explain all the generic, "Gas is used for stuff" advertising I've seen on tv lately. No further message than that. Gas industry trying to keep things rolling for them I guess.

gas is for stuff

Bloody useful of them to remind us. I thought we were just keepin ourselves busy till pub'o'clock with all this drilling and pumping..

I think a gas company executive's greatest fear is that one day, gas won't be used for stuff.

It's a trial to test out the idea with the goal of eventually rolling it out nationwide in some form.

And it's more about electrification broadly than about the more limited solar idea. So, solar panels + home battery + heat pumps (water and climate) + induction cooktops. From what I can tell, the home owners decide on which subsidies they want to take advantage of. Which is probably fine for a trial, but ideally there would be more support for those less knowledgeable as this gets expanded. Although I expect there is onboarding during the application process that would assist with this.

You can see the subsidies offered on the original Electrify 2515 pilot

Yeah, its definitely something that people with the means, who also make the time to look at, could gain a great deal from. But there'll have to be outreach and explainers sent out to activate people who aren't in that niche.
